If there a coal dealer in your town? One lump should suffice. Seriously, you should take the high road. The ostensible purpose of the plan is improvement. And giving the person the same gift, or a commensurate gift, as everyone else may actually help to ameliorate the problems you've been having. Plus, we're talking Christmas, time to have a big heart.
Do the same for every employee, regardless.
I think you need to treat them all the same.
A good leader will forgive and move on. If you single him out this would look bad on you. Take this as an opertunity to teach. If the team member has any morlas he or she will know they need to applogize for that behavior.
I’ve had to do this. For an employee that literally hated me and thought she should have gotten my job lol
It does kill you a little bit on the inside but… you will know you did the right thing. You’re the bigger person and should be the example of what a servant leader is, a good leader and one to aspire to.
You got this! Do it! You’ll kind of hate it but everything that doesn’t kill you makes you stronger !!! And down the road this will be a laughable moment!
Excellent answer, civilly stated.
If it's a gift that everyone knows about, just suck it up and give it to him. But if it's something you give more in private to each person, I wouldn't feel the need to give him a gift. Also, sorry you're dealing with such a disrespectful employee, nothing worse!
Other than a disrespectful manager who plays favorites
Yes, I think you still have to if you are doing it for everyone else. Even though I can completely and totally understand the temptation to not. Maybe it can end up being one of those kill them with kindness scenarios you know?
As a Director you must lead by example . Buy this employee the same thing you are buying the others . Maybe once this employee sees your kindness it may soften their heart

Giving a gift to everyone, including him, maintains your professionalism and fairness. It reinforces your leadership integrity, even if it’s tough. It shows respect for the team dynamic, regardless of individual challenges.
It’s important to consider the potential impact of excluding an employee from gift-giving, as it could create the perception of favoritism or a hostile work environment. By treating one employee differently, especially in a public or noticeable way, you may unintentionally reinforce division within your team and undermine your leadership.
Reflecting on this situation, could the challenges with this employee stem, in part, from how they feel treated within the team dynamic? Do you unintentionally discuss this employee negatively with others, or allow behaviors that might isolate them? In my experience, such dynamics can quickly erode team morale and trust.
Leadership means setting aside personal feelings and maintaining professionalism, even in challenging situations. Demonstrating fairness and consistency, even with difficult employees, sets the tone for a cohesive and respectful workplace. Remember, leading a team to success requires modeling the behavior you expect from everyone.
You absolutely should gift everyone. You can not single anyone out. As the Manager the gifts should be similar and uniformed to show the gifts are for * the team* otherwise it is a conflict of interest. Ask your HR. They will tell you the same
Definitely do the same for all. As much as it hurts .
Treat the same. Best to set a time to discuss the issue with them. Handle it separately. Give them a plan to improve.
Do not make the mistake of not giving one person a gift. All or nothing or you will be hearing from HR about the hostile work environment and how you single --- out...
They all get a gift or none
Don't give gifts to anyone or give gifts to all. You have to be equitable.
do the same for every employee
Every employee should be treated the same. It makes me question your leadership as a Director that you even have to ask this on fishbowl.
It will say more about you than it will him if you gracefully give equally with your heart
It’s the holiday, it’s a time of giving and grace, everyone gets a gift !
Kill him with kindness
