Varies greatly by office in my experience
Having been extensively involved in recruiting over the years, the truth is, it just means you’re high on ‘Priority List’ for Bain while you’re not on MCK. I’ve seen MCK /BCG do it for those on their HP list as well and ‘just send you the invite’ when you’re on the bubble. That said, given size of firm and given they can’t just rely on ‘prestige’, come cross offer time, Bain does more upfront while MCK believes they can wait till you get an offer to go all out. And trust me I’ve seen many people forget history once MCK puts the sell mode on.
Is this also true for MBB in Southeast Asia?
Bain got slaughtered in cross-offer battles at most top schools last cycle. No wonder they're trying hard this cycle.

Having seen the offer acceptance rate in a large US office, this isn’t true. Was higher than most cycles. Better metric imo given cross-offers are self reported (and losing cross-offers will impact acceptance rate)
Mck tends to have worse HR in my view…totally procedural and kpi driven..some even lie outright..to be fair, every firm has good and bad people so HR isn’t really reflective of the culture of the firm

Yeah we don’t go very hard for recruiting
Yes, I am from CEE region and had all the support I could ask for from McK.
I just went through the McK hiring process and I found the opposite. TA were very helpful and very responsive, was pleasantly surprised.
Would love to take credit for this on Bain’s behalf, but in general I think it’s dangerous to infer too much about culture from your experiences with recruiting. They’re entirely separate from the day-to-day work and you’ll mostly never see them again after you sign.
This is pretty standard operating procedure at my office and I assume all of them. When applicants choose us over M and B the reason most commonly cited is Bain’s culture (followed by strength of PEG and less travel as a distant third). Promoting that culture starts before you even apply.
I don't think it matters. I'd focus on the interview and getting both offers. Once that hopefully happens you can speak to specific offices about what matters to you. For example McK has more geographical flexibility than Bain does. That might be something that matters to you later on.
Totally agree on this point, I was just stating my impression
I thought BCG were “the nice guys”?
I know we’re not but I never heard that about Bain either….
BCG is not the nice guys, they’re the same as McKinsey, people just expect them to be different, but they’re not
