I have seen people who have a hard time letting go of bad experiences from a previous job. I myself am having a hard time navigating experiences I am having even at my current job. It’s interesting how our work experience can mold and affect us as employees. Have you had any work experience that have affected how you behaved well beyond when they should have?

I think that is a natural reaction to difficulty and adversity. It'd be nice if we could completely forget about our bad experiences, but they stay with us a lot longer than we probably realize. For example, I was laid off with no warning once, and now I get an incredible anxiety anytime my supervisor needs to "have a chat."

like

I have never been laid off and still have that anxiety lol.

Yes totally! When I first started my career I was so grateful to have a job and all the experiences I was given in my job. However, I slowly realized I was being taken advantage of and my pay did not reflect the work I put in and the achievements I brought to the company and team. I now have strict boundaries and work, advocate for myself and others, and come to work to get a paycheck and that's it. My life is what I do outside of my job, and my job is just to supplement that life.

I really need to work on separating life and work for myself.

Yep. Sometimes it’s lessons that I should have learned anyway, like “don’t send emails to another person from your work computer bad-mouthing the boss.” But a lot of it is “trust no one.” Management said they’d write me a good recommendation. Nope. Coworkers became friends and wanted to connect on social media and/or outside of work. Bad idea. They later used my personal information and weaknesses to throw me under the bus and make themselves look better. So now I don’t interact with coworkers beyond work hours unless it’s work-related.

That’s basically the stance I take. It’s a pretty rare phenomenon for someone from work to be someone I would have had an organic friendship with anyway.

I always bill 100% of my time and for my entire career in public accounting I have never heard anything negative until recently.. I was told to watch my time as the client doesn’t like to pay these fees, and the partner is unhappy because it looks like I have high hours. Is the message that I should eat my time? Or is it that They think I’m inefficient?

Hi everyone, I had a major surgery and am looking to find a remote position involving anything that isn’t 100% commission based or cold calling/agent positions. Looking to make $25-35 an hour, and have had long term positions such as Clinical Secretary & Receptionist/Administrator, Accounts Payable Clerk, Team Lead, and Sales Associate. I’m willing to try new things and am a very quick learner, and can handle multitasking and high pace. Does anyone know of any good work from home positions?

Recruiter for big tech company reached out on LinkedIn about a role. I asked about ballpark compensation numbers and they said they’re only comfortable sharing on a live call. Replied that I often receive LinkedIn offers for roles of paycuts around 30-50% so I want to make sure we’re in the same rough range. Recruiter again said she would only share via live call. Is this a red flag?

Hi, I'm an employee at a hotel chain who works remotely. I've been working remotely for over a year now and I love it! The company I work for is very supportive of remote workers, which is great.

But there's one thing that's been bothering me: it's hard to get feedback on my work when I'm not in the office. It would be great if there was some kind of system that let me know how my performance was being evaluated while I'm working on projects from home.

Im starting a new job but still employed somewhere else. I was trying to be open about staying at BOTH places. My current job won’t let me be part time because they don’t allow “set schedules”. Yet I am one of the only reliable and loyal employees in the department, and currently working a set schedule. So why will they not let me continue a set schedule but with different hours? This place is more focused on strict policies and not actually trying to work their employees and being flexible.

My spirits are a bit low but I need to make some sales, and that's hard to do when my charisma is basically zero. Any advice on how to keep a stiff upper lip when you feel like you're going nowhere in your career?
