Not weird at all
Same thing happened to me, four rounds of interviews. I asked the company to keep me in mind if another position becomes available.
Pro
Yes- go for it.
Completely acceptable!
I did the same thing and the hiring manager emailed me back to say she would keep me in mind for future opportunities.
The curse of running a business by committee. If senior decisionmaker wanted you, you would have been in.
Absolutely YES!! If you work this hard to GET the or a job there, it shows how hard you will work once you get the job!
Remember, if you are applying for sales positions get the close, no matter what. Also, remind them that they should expect you to do numerous follow-ups because that's what they would want you to do to potential buyers.
Nope, not weird at all. When I was an account exec in staffing I would do it all the time with clients that were using staffing from a competitor. I would ask them if I could follow up and ask them the time frame 2 wks or a month is what I would normally hear back. That’s being a strong candidate and showing your true interest in this company. They should feel complimented when you ask that question. Wish you the best:)
Maybe they're testing you to see how aggressive and a go-getter you are or if you'll let opportunity pass you by.. Go after it!
That is actually how I got my previous position. I was the second pick, things didn’t work out with their first pick and I landed the position. Just over a year later I made President’s Club and made them reevaluate their whole decision making process. Go for it!
As a hiring manager, I am curious about what you did to prepare for your interview. IMO that is the difference between 1 and 2. If you came in second, send another thank you note (you did send a first one, right?) and all about their expansion plans. Include a bullet or two about how you can contribute). This is a sales role, so keep selling yourself (without pestering the manager).

At the very least ask for feedback
Same happened to me
I would absolutely follow up! You never know what might happen!
Not weird at all!! If you want the job let them know!! The more your eager to tell them, the more you are liable to stick out in their head for the next opening that matches your qualifications!! I say go for it!!
Yes it's weird
They needed u like yesterday...but WHY IN THE WORLD WOULD THEY BE TAKING...sooooo LONG?????
