I really can’t handle long zoom calls with camera on, each one of them makes me die a little more inside😫

As things start to open up fully, some of my institutional clients are sending notices that we are expected to do X activity over zoom from here on out (things we used to do in person). Clearly it’s a cost cutting measure. Anyone else feel like filing for telephonic appearance so the insurance company can save a buck isn’t going to sit well with judges who prefer in person attendance? I hope they deny all of them so my billables don’t suffer. Less travel = more desk bs I have to do to hit quota

I love teaching art but am having to teach remotely to 1150 kids, k - 5. Have about 54 amazing elementary art teachers in my district that share SO much! I could retire (34 yrs), but just don’t want to because I love what I do! Feeling like my students aren’t getting what they should because I am struggling with Zoom, Microsoft, safe YouTube, bitmoji, embedding, downloads, editing, etc. Anyone else feeling this way?

Everyone who I want to like me or to hangout with doesn’t respond to my texts or tells me they are too busy. This weekend I reached out to 12 people to see if they wanted to grab coffee or a drink or go for a walk. The number of people who just didn’t respond astounded me. I ended up eating dinner in bed by myself and getting brunch on my own.

I’ve been at my company for 10+ years. I’m not happy with the culture but have flexibility I enjoy, seniority for the time I’ve been here, and pays well. An new job opportunity came up as a Tax Manager but in a different industry which could expand my skillset in different ways, but is not as flexible and the pay is 20k lower. If I stay, I will be Director in few years. What will look better on a resume in the future, continued growth in 1 company or experience in more than 1 company?

Me(jr): asked to lead a call for a different deal as training. Mid-level doesn't take notes (also on call) and tells me it's the job if the junior to take notes.

How do you deal with stub years who are exceptionally bad? I’m not talking about general cluelessness which is completely expected and understandable, but turning in work product riddled with incomprehensible, grammatically incorrect sentences that would fail middle school English. 1st yr at a nyc v50 firm doing general transactional work. I know the lateral market for transactional lawyers is hot but not as hot for juniors. I just want a change of scenery because my current firm is bleeding good associates / not giving great training imo / and just seems small. Would lateralling this early feasible? Would it look bad on my resume?

Seeing Cooley do a 180 from fully remote to 3x a week in the office has me insanely grateful that I took a fully remote position while they were available.

I live an hour from my office and I actually go in quite a bit because I like my colleagues a lot, but everyone in my group is across the country so there’s no pressure and I can’t be forced. Thank the lord.

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? How much actual court experience should a junior litigator expect to get in the first year? I've been my firm 6 months as a civil litigator not and have yet to go to a hearing. There have been a few (all relatively minor) but each time the partner tells me it's not important enough for me to attend. As a junior, I feel like I need to learn and no hearing is to minor. I lateraled into a niche practice group in Sept 2021. I also have a 1 year old and have been mostly remote since I started - but have been keeping busy tracking towards 2400-2500 hours. How do you manage NOT getting overwhelmed with multiple workstreams due in a short time period? I’m a first-year who’s being told to make edits to several ongoing docs TODAY in advance of next week’s signing (fine) and have communicated capacity to ALL deal teams… but literally they keep adding work, and telling me basically “Understood - need this asap, will only take five mins to do.” (HA) It’s getting to a point where I’m making sloppy mistakes because they want things like yesterday.
