Disrespect, really? I think all this stems from your misguided expectations more than anything. It's a big personal and professional accomplishment for sure, but I never once expected any praise from anyone, let alone my firm. I did qualify for a one time bonus which was really nice, but a raise isn't expected or the norm.
Congrats, but I think you played yourself by expecting anything from your firm. Check if there's a policy about one-time bonuses for passing the exams though
you really need to get with the times.
valid points, but also exactly why some firms are hurting.
If your CPA firm won’t recognize you, I will. Congrats on getting your CPA license. 🎉👏👏🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🎊🍾🍾🥂
Yes, that's a sign that it's time to move on. If you don't feel appreciated by your firm, find one where you do. Life's too short to be disrespected.
Passing the CPA exam is an accomplishment to be celebrated but realize your employer and colleagues are not necessarily a group of close friends who celebrate life events. Celebrate with your family, girlfriend or a group of friends. Continue learning...
As an office manager, the person who makes those announcements, I wouldn’t know about it if no one tells me. also, I’m not sure, but maybe you would get the raise with the annual increase cycle.
Congrats! Yes your firm and peers should celebrate this as any CPA before you knows, it's a tough feat to reach. Im not saying they should throw you a parade but a nice email to the team or pat on the back doesn't hurt. It can also motivate others to pursue as well.
I have been in accounting for over 10 years. My suggestion -go into private accounting. You will make more money, and people will recognize your achievements. CONGRATULATIONS. You should be so proud of yourself.
I would move on. Obtaining a CPA license opens up avenues for you. If you feel that the company is disrespecting you, then use the power of the license to move forward in your career.
The only caveat I would ask is, was obtaining a license part of the requirements for your job?
I know that feeling when you work hard and still get no recognition. Big congratulations on your passing your CPA.
You passed. Great. Are you performing higher level work that justifies a higher billing rate? Have your billable hours increased? Have you brought new clients to the firm? What have you done to justify receiving a pay increase?
Yes
Firstly, congratulations! In my experience at 2 firms (one has over 1200 employees and one has around 100), they would have announced your passing to the your department with your approval but not to your clients. It doesn’t automatically mean a raise & promotion on the spot. You’ll still have to wait for the evaluation around the usually time like mid-year or year-end. Depending on your level and position, your job might not even require a CPA license. So not having a license could stop you from climbing that ladder. You would get a bonus if your firm offers it. I think communication with your manager or coach could have saved your hurt feelings. Always have your options open when it comes to work! If you want to leave for more money, than go for it! I don’t really think there was any disrespect here. Just firms acting like firms.
Also to note, staff don’t get raises or promotions solely for getting their CPA. Some people here have really harsh opinions on you but you are still a person. Go where you feel appreciated.
Those certification do not grant you any increase or praise, i know people and also organization that are without any accounting certificates, just University degrees and be much more competent than people owning a CPA. The question to ask is, did you enroll to CPA for your own development or did you do it just to get a rise and applause form your co-workers?
Hey I totally understand. The best leaders understand the importance of emotional intelligence. It is so important that a leader can master their soft skills, one of which is the art of making each employee feel like the most important person in the room while they are 1 on 1. This involves people understanding different personality types and how to cater to each type- combined with the ability to actively listen and being quick to praise but slow to condemn.
Congratulations on the CPA achievement, even if It is a requirement many people have not put in the work to turn their dreams into reality- but you did.
Long career ahead of you- I’m routing for you on the sideline, peace be.
Then leave and find better. Having your CPA license should open more doors for you and increase your earning potential. And congrats! All your hard work paid off!!
Congratulations on getting your CPA license! If I were you, I think I would start looking for work elsewhere, while you're still employed, then jump ship once you a secure a new job if you're not happy with your current position and the way the firm has handled things!
No, it is not.
If you're otherwise happy there, than celebrate on your own or with your close coworkers. Did your boss/mentor say anything about it, or did you openly tell them?
Some firms do have a spot bonus for passing certified credentialing programs, so that's something you can ask about. If you don't like the responses then sure, start taking a look. However, my understanding is that the acctg job market right now is quite a struggle, but that might just be manager and above.
1) Send a mass email yourself declaring it.
2) Communicate and make sure that they are waiting until the new fiscal year on October 1 to give new CPA raises.
3) if not, quit and go somewhere else
Hey congrats! 🎈🎊🎉 good job
Passing the CPA exam just isn’t that much of a challenge. It is amazing that a person can spend years earning a technical degree and then be unable to pass a qualifying exam on the subject. On the other hand, it would be beneficial to your organization (morale boost, encourage others, demonstrate commitment) to find reasons to celebrate. Frankly, unless you are in a small town I definitely would use passing the exam as an occasion to step up your compensation and perceived standing.
Did the firm help you get the cpa?
Free training, pay for the exams or reimbursements?
