Need advice. I’m a super senior content EP at a well known agency in the U.S., where I’ve been for quite some time. Checked out http://Glassdoor.com, and I make at the high end of the ranges for similar agencies. In the past year I’ve also taken on additional responsibilities (outside of traditional EP duties) that have doubled my workload and raised my profile quite a bit. How should I go about brining up a sizable salary bump (some creatives and even planning peeps earn more with much less responsibility)?

Disrespect, really? I think all this stems from your misguided expectations more than anything. It's a big personal and professional accomplishment for sure, but I never once expected any praise from anyone, let alone my firm. I did qualify for a one time bonus which was really nice, but a raise isn't expected or the norm.
Congrats, but I think you played yourself by expecting anything from your firm. Check if there's a policy about one-time bonuses for passing the exams though
you really need to get with the times.
valid points, but also exactly why some firms are hurting.
If your CPA firm won’t recognize you, I will. Congrats on getting your CPA license. 🎉👏👏🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🎊🍾🍾🥂
What’s your secret to passing? I’m terrible at studying and opening a book puts me to sleep
Congratulations!
Yes, If you are interested in other opportunities, go for it. It's extremely poor form not to be congratulated and encouraged when getting a license or a degree while on the job. I've seen this poor behavior by non-CPA's (in addition to no congratualtions, i got told CPA's were the dumbest people they have ever worked with, it was a stupid exam, and that they weren't good at taking tests).
Also, it's always a good idea to congratulate and acknowledge it when other people accomplish these milestones.
It’s a huge accomplishment worth celebrating. Even large firms should have smaller teams within who should recognize the accomplishment. Just my take.
Good grief. Congrats on achieving the bare minimum to have a long term career in this industry.
You’re fun at parties huh lol
Getting your CPA is a huge achievement - it is a big deal, whether your firm acknowledges it or not. I had a similar experience where nothing was said at first regarding compensation, but I brought it up directly with the managing partner and asked if there was a standard protocol for a compensation boost after becoming a CPA. His response? “I was wondering when you’d ask.”
Sometimes firms don’t act until you advocate for yourself - but that doesn’t mean your hard work should be overlooked. If you’ve received interest from elsewhere and feel undervalued, it might be time to explore your options. But either way, congrats - earning your CPA is a major milestone and you should be proud.
Congrats man! Come work with me. We’re always looking for more CPAs
OK, I'm ancient, but when I was a student in accounts we had to work 2 years for an approved firm to even qualify to write the CA exam, I was being paid peanuts. Nothing we could do - had to get the experience.
However, the moment I got my CA designation my salary doubled.
Run your race and don't worry about who is cheering for you. ALWAYS root for yourself!
First, congrats on passing the CPA exam. Second, have you confirmed what the firm's policy is for passing the CPA exam in terms of any bonuses you many have qualified for? Third, have you seen announcements about others having passed the CPA exam over the past 3 years? Sometimes, it may come out in a group announcement either on a quarterly or annual basis.
Yes, it is.
If they didn’t congratulate you then I will! Congratulations! You should feel proud! What an accomplishment!
yes
Don’t most CPA firms expect you to pass the CPA exam? Congratulations anyway, 🎉🥳👏🙌🙌🥂🍾
CONGRATULATIONS! This is a big achievement and you deserve the recognition. The firm will increase your billable rate and gain a financial benefit. First, make sure you provide the appropriate documentation to your management and go as far as to send an email to let them know that you now have your CPA. Second, start looking at other firms/places to keep your options open. Keeping up morale is a big step in any business. Good luck!
Congrats on your CPA! If your manager or any higher up knows you've achieved this milestone in your career, yet, haven't acknowledged it, that's just plain rude! Any great accomplishments that employees attain while working for a company, benefits the organization. Wanting to be recognized when you've worked your a-s off, while meeting or exceeding the expectations of the company you work for, should be acknowledged. If it were me, I'd start weighing my options. A new company will definitely see your CPA on resume, acknowledge it in an interview, and share with others.
Definitely leave if you dont get a bonus for getting it or any kind of advancement.. Did the pay for the prep classes or the test costs?
Congrats on getting your license. That is a definitely something to be proud of. I assume you informed them that you are now licensed and they haven't acknowledged it. Why haven't you told your coworkers and clients about it? Maybe they just wanted to leave it up to you break the news. Them not telling your co-workers or clients isn't a red flag. What would cause me to consider going to another firm is if nothing has changed for you since you got your license. Then you should question your career path with the company and maybe go elsewhere.
LEAVE. THOSE. PEOPLE!
No raise? After passing the one of hardest professional tests in the entire United States?? Leave. You owe them nothing.
So you reach a personal goal and you feel co-workers should celebrate you, your manager should offer your more money without you asking and announce it like like it's not an expectation at a CPA firm ? Am I missing something? Do they celebrate others with an announcement? Was you getting your CPA tied to the understanding with your manager that it would lead to higher salary once achieved?
It's as if you did something above-and-beyond the norm for this profession ... Do you think that every time a doctor passes his boards the hospital they have their residency at stops and congratulates them? Or when an attorney passes the Bar?
NO because it is a basic step in your business life and it is not unique, nor exceptional for the career path you have chosen.
People want to take care of their business life as succinctly and professionally as possible so they can get as much time out of REAL life as possible.
Be careful not to confuse the two separate and distinct worlds.
