I applied for and landed a job posted on LinkedIn years ago, but not recently. It seems to be a point of contention lately whether jobs posted there are legit or are "ghost jobs." Some companies have admitted to business journalists that they post jobs they have no intention of filling. So I don't blame people for being skeptical about what they see on LinkedIn.
I swear these companies can care less about wasting peoples time! I seriously think that companies need to be fined for that. Respect goes both ways
Yeah I don't think that every job listed on LinkedIn is necessarily an active job posting and in some cases I've even heard of companies listing jobs that they don't intend to hire for, just so they can observe the competition. Definitely feels wrong and I wish there was some regulatory body (on LinkedIn and elsewhere) to make sure this happened less
I came to the conclusion that some companies are posting jobs or recruiters are posting jobs that are “ ghost jobs”. Some of the titles were similar but had what looked like 4 open positions for 1 employer. I think it’s way for employers look like their company is growing. Also for recruiters to look busy and successful by posting the same job slightly differently and creating more listings and puffing up the available jobs on their site that are not really there. I have seen this in healthcare. This summer I was looking for a job and applied to many through Linked In, Indeed, ZipRecruiter. I would see a job posted by hospital name & department , then see another listing for the larger hospital corporation in same city, same hospital, same dept. so that’s 2 listings for 1 position. Then I would also find a job posting listed by a name of a medical practice who happens to be part of the same system, same everything now that’s 3 job postings from the original 1 opening. I believe there are some unscrupulous players in the job search market. Employers, recruiters, temp agencies…
