Should I tell new firm that I need time off to take CA bar before or after I accept the offer?

100% Before. And I would present it just like that. Be up front, tell them it’s paid for and so you would like to take it and do well on it.

Tack on “if this presents any issue, I will forgo the exam and withdraw as obviously my employment here is the top priority.”

This. 100000%

They are normal ppl. Telling them you already paid for it, and they will give you the time off.

I was planning on accepting an in-house offer to join a company based in CA but decided to go with another firm in my current jurisdiction. The in-house role required me to sit for the CA bar. I've paid all the fees and only can get a 30% refund at this point so I still want to take it. Should I tell my new firm that I need some time off to take the bar after I accept their offer? Alternatively, do I just have to take the L, eat the costs, and forgo taking the exam?

If it’s not paid time off, I’d be surprised if the math on costs incurred + income lost while not working to study work out in your favor by still doing the test.

Could be beneficial long term for OP to be barred in California, though

Had an offer for 30% more , a promotion to manager, extra week of vacation to switch firms. I love where I am at with my clients and there is a lot of potential there. Should I stay the course?

I'm 6 months old at D! Planning early promotion next year.. counselor and pm both are backing me.. I need to go to India for at least 4 weeks in Dec ... most probably would be rolling off from current project by then .. would this vacation hurt my promotion chances coz of utilization etc?

We are seeing more pushback from employees on working 40 hours. We offer flexibility (wfh), 11 holidays and another 3 wks PTO. Seems like a good gig, I think, at 40-45 hrs. Anyone seeing this too?

I know that some other associates at my level are approximately 30% behind other associates in hours on a month to month basis. Yet all of these associates say they are “at capacity”, and myself and another associate still end up being assigned work instead of them. How do we handle this? For reference, all associates are around the firms minimum requirement, it’s just that a few of us are 30+% over and it is leading to burnout.

I just finished a big jury trial with a senior partner (SP). There were co-parties w/separate counsel. SP mentally checked out, to the point that co-counsel was asking what SP was doing/if SP was okay. I ended up handling most everything.
