I wouldn't take it.
You're right to be skeptical; those set hour requirements are beyond what is customary for a 1099 position. However, they are telling you about their requirements upfront and giving you the option to accept or decline. In that sense, they're not forcing you.
Accepting the position knowing full well what they expect and then declining to do training or work the specified hours is going to cause headaches for both you and the employer. These headaches are unlikely to be worth the money or opportunity, so I would not accept the position.
No. A 1099 is a self employed person. “Employers” can not mandate a schedule. Be careful with 1099 positions. In a self employed tax bracket your taxes are not automatically deducted. You need to pay them quarterly - a good idea is 35% of your gross pay. If you fail to pay quarterly, the IRS will fine you $1,000 at tax time.
Never take a job that is not willing to risk anything to employ you, you are made to take all the risk, and if they are I unwilling to take any risk to employ you, what exactly are they offering you? The answer is easy, nothing. Unless they are offering equity, or some other tangible benefit that is as good as pay, don’t take it unless you have a ton of sales already lined up and the commission is great.
You’re right.
1099 jobs are just good to cover gaps in employment, establish relationships with decision makers and gain some experience. There’s a reason why they won’t pay a base salary or benefits for that role.
Unpaid training for the right 1099 position is “ Fair”
I would have paid for the Free training I just want through !
But..
Delegate your Hours.. No
You get out of what You put in, You figure out the balance that works for You.
I am lucky to Have It..
