I would only go back to a law firm if there were no in-house option
I wouldn’t necessarily consider law firms as having more stability. Many laid off staff and paralegals at the start/during the pandemic (and that’s not even considering all the layoffs that took place post financial crisis, dot com implosion, etc.). Are you ready to go back to the billable hour model, and are the billable hours there/you’re allowed to bill for everything? If you’ve been away from law firm life for a while, make sure you fully understand what you’re getting into, what the minimums and unspoken minimums are, etc.
Also, benefits are generally better on the in house side so be sure to consider that as well.
My time in house was short so no issue readjusting to firm life. Of course you can never really be sure until you’re in it, but this firm preaches work life balance and does not have a billable quota. They have low turnover and are a very respected firm in my area. I do know one of the partners so I’m not going in 100% blind.
My vote is for in-house. I also didn’t realize paralegals worried about billing at firms 😅
Yup, unfortunately 🙂
Go in house.
I’d go in-house unless there wasn’t an option. As a new hire at a law firm I wouldn’t count on stability there.
Depends a bit on the health of the company and the team you’ll be on! Also the personality of a direct manager matters a lot regardless of the broader business environment. Sounds like decent options either way—good luck!
