Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

How's the company doing, is it profitable? Bit skeptical about the recent layoffs at PayPal.
Any data engineers at PayPal around? Whats your thoughts, how's the team doing and how would be the growth?

TC seems to be a lowball, but that's their budget, no scope of negotiation.

I’m a woman of color and my firm quietly let me and two other associates of color go from our group in April. We were the only three POC associates in the entire group.
That's predictable and terrible. Law firms sure seem to feel emboldened right now to be themselves more than ever.
This is super unfortunate but it happens alot. The associates who are kept are well-liked by persons in power. They are not necessarily better attorneys. Remember that. With attorneys of color, being well liked is sometimes more difficult because youre up against biases, prejudices and presumptions.
Let me encourage you all. God is in control and there is opportunity, you may need to rethink your path.
The blessing is , you’ll be re-wired and better suited for expanding beyond the typical and normal.
Get up and build something new …
Amen. I am not very religious but life is like that. Your steps are written; fate is predetermined; you'll get what's coming to you; everything happens for a reason...Basically, you will be fine!! Speak it into existence beloveds.

Sigh it’s so disappointing that so many of us are going through the same thing 😩 Remember to negotiate your severance agreements! Make them pay you what they owe you. I’m more than happy to help anyone with this if they want, even if it’s just to brainstorm. Just DM me.

I left this year because I was tired of working literally 2-3x more than other (white and light-skinned) associates to get a third of the opportunities they were getting. I think literally a quarter of the attorneys of color from the firm either left or are trying to leave this year and most did for the same reason (i.e., they're tired of being exploited and watching their colleagues get opportunities and second and third chances that they're not getting).

Nice, I also have a project I’m working on if someone would like to partner to do a legal insights review. Essentially, we’ve been asked to create content but would love an attorney to give insights. It would be a partnership project . The client pays once content is approved and published.
I’m a white female and I don’t even have a chance at starting a career as an attorney. I’m stuck doing gig ai work because no one wants to hire junior level attorneys in house, even with 2.5 years of non-atty in house experience. Smh it’s a class/privilege issue mainly, not so much race.
What? No one wants to hire any race or class of juniors in house. They dont want to train you.
Overcome and get together to build something new, charge less do it better.
This happened to me in July of this year. 6 months on- I’m grateful for a new version of my success story but it’s tough when you find yourself othered in this way
