If you pinged your colleague for something non urgent and they said they’re at the gym and they’ll get back to you in a little, how would you respond/feel?

I would say great enjoy the workout and then wait for a response once they’re done at the gym. why would I feel any type of way about this?

Haha okay, just wanted to see everyone’s thoughts bc I’m the colleague at the gym. I usually tell them I’m at lunch but was jw how they’d feel if I told them the truth lol

Capgemeni.....shut cho ass up

"Non urgent", it was nice of them to even acknowledge your ping tbh

👌

Continue pinging them every 5 minutes until they treat my request with the deference it deserves

likefunny

AD2-I feel that. Once the pre-workout has been consumed, events have been set in motion that cannot be undone.

If it’s not urgent, then I think it doesn’t matter. They’ll get back.

As long as that person gets their work done each day you should be happy that people are taking care of themselves and do the same, exercise is crucial for mental health, especially with WFH

likesmart

We really need to evaluate the toxicity of expecting folks to only work during work hours. We definitely don’t get to only rest during rest hours.

Good for you for getting a workout, OP.

likeuplifting

Uh that’s fine. Sounds like person is carving out boundaries and working on their health. Their health >> your non-urgent request. I think it’s healthy, esp with work from home, to normalize “going to the gym”, “making dinner”, “spending time with family”, “running an errand”...

likesmart

Lol I framed it like that on purpose but I appreciate that you respect boundaries and others health 🙂

With all this said, I hope you all hit the gym or do something active today and get your body+mind right!

I didn’t today but I have 😉

I would not say I was at the gym unless I knew the person well.

I know it shouldn’t be a sensitive thing to say, but there’s a handful of people in this industry who would not react well to it. (Which is unfortunate)

like

I agree that people take it the wrong way. I go the opposite route for that reason, to normalize it with any team I'm on. I'll bend over backwards to help out the team, but I also have a life outside work and everyone has their own schedule. If there's whitespace on my calendar, I'll take advantage of it if needed.

likeuplifting

"Great, enjoy your workout and let's chat when you're back". I dont care what you do during your lunch time and I don't really care if it takes longer than lunch as long as things get done.

It’s cool! We need to do a better job respecting space and boundaries. If it’s not urgent why sweat it?
