If you want to do analytics work for a specific sector - what’s the better route?
1) Upskilling on your total tech stack/capabilities
2) Projects within the sector.

Long term, I want to do analytics/ds work within the energy sector. I’m faced with picking a project in a sector where I can do ML or just making dashboards for the energy sector

Projects for sure, upskilling can be done on the side

like

Agreed, the industry experience helps a lot. As people get further in their careers they seem to start specializing, energy, finance, insurance, etc. Get the ball rolling in the industry that you want to be in

like

Either find the project in energy or jump to energy industry. Business acumen and tech skills will come along the way together.

Domain knowledge is harder to get than vice versa. For recruiter screens, you almost always need both.

Here is my idea for a startup! I collect all the data from career transitions and use Data Analytics to predict the most likely career transitions. I could start with consulting. What do you guys think about this? I would be able to predict based on your firm(mbb, big4), your experience, which role you are likely to move (Faang pm, strategy manager, move to mbb). I have all the data to do this, but wanted your thoughts. Would the output of this be relevant to you?

I am trying to figure out how to switch to SWE. I have a masters in civil engineering and have a good background in higher level math. It looks like the better coding boot camps are quite expensive. The alternative is another masters in CS which is the same cost as many boot camps. Any recommendations on picking between a coding boot camp and getting another masters degree in CS? I’m looking to get into the best position possible after getting an education in CS (get a job quick and good pay).

Curious if anyone else is or has been in the same boat. I started as an assistant at an entertainment law firm prior to passing the bar. Upon passing, the partner told me they would hire an assistant for me since I now became an associate. That was 1.5 years ago and I am still in the limbo of juggling my own workload + doing assistant roles for my supervisors. I have also had no increase in pay, which is a huge deal for me. Is this normal in the entertainment world? Any suggestions?

I work on a team that is 95% H1b (it’s really just me and 1 other on a team that’s 20+). The client has a few topics that are restricted to US citizens on US soil only. There’s a few team members that are visibly (not recently because it’s virtual) upset when asked to leave the room for these discussions to take place. Why would they get so offended?
