I’m 30 (career change) and have already gone through the process for a few departments, but I haven’t been hired yet. For one of those departments, I passed all of the steps, but at the very end they said I was not selected. Is it normal to have to apply to multiple departments before one is hired? Just sucks cause I never got feedback on what I should have done better.

Yes, it is quite normal. You’ll get rejected by way more departments than you will get accepted at. I have applied to about 22 agencies and have been hired by 2.

It can take time. But never give up! I joined the state parole board as a parole agent and worked there for 5 years (1/2 years on the street and 3 1/2 year in management) before I was hired as a cop.

Don’t give up. If you have to take a job as a corrections officer or part time cop to get your foot in the door, then do it.

It's not uncommon for individuals to apply to multiple departments or companies before being hired, especially in competitive fields such as law enforcement. There could be various reasons for this, including a high volume of applicants, limited job openings, or specific qualifications that the hiring department is seeking.

It's important to remember that the hiring process is not always within your control, and even the most qualified candidates may not always be selected. It's crucial to remain persistent, patient, and continue to apply to other departments or opportunities that align with your career goals and skillset.

Additionally, it may be helpful to seek feedback from the departments where you applied and were not selected. This feedback could provide insights on areas for improvement, such as additional training or experience, which could increase your chances of being hired in the future.

Yes, it is normal to have to apply to multiple departments before one is hired. It can be a long and frustrating process, so it’s important to stay positive and remember that you will eventually find the right fit for you. As for the feedback you requested, it’s not uncommon for departments to not offer any feedback after the selection process. However, you can still use the experience to better prepare yourself for future interviews. Ask yourself questions like: How did I perform in the interview? Was my resume up to date and did I highlight the most important things? Did I have all the necessary documents? Did I have an understanding of the department and its mission? Did I communicate well? These questions can help you identify areas to improve on and increase your chances of success when applying to other departments

Yes, it is normal to have to apply to multiple departments before one is hired. Unfortunately, the hiring process can be frustrating, and it is not uncommon to complete the steps but not get hired. It is also not uncommon to not receive feedback on why you were not selected. However, don't give up hope! There are a few things you can do to increase your chances of success.

First, make sure you are doing everything you can to stand out from the other applicants. This could involve taking extra classes, volunteering in the community, or attending job fairs. Additionally, make sure you are researching the departments you are applying to and customizing your application for each one.

Second, if you are able to, reach out to people who work in the departments you are applying to. They may be able to provide insight into the hiring process and may even be able to provide some additional advice.

Finally, take the time to go back and review your application and the steps you took. Make sure you are presenting yourself in the best light possible and consider how you can improve your approach.

Overall, the hiring process can be challenging and it can take some time before you land the job
