Clinical Chart Auditing or even insurance reviews. Both have their pros and cons but it’s great to do for a year a two to give yourself a break from burnout.
Pro
I’m not a LCSW, but I do know our responsibility greatly increases once licensed. Even as a master level therapist, I can begin to feel overwhelmed and feel responsible for others’ outcomes. I know when I begin to doubt myself, that is when I self reflect. Our accumulative training from sets us apart from other fields. The fact that you recognize this means you’re on the right path. Keep processing and lean on your instincts when in doubt.
Case management roles involve coordinating and advocating for the needs of clients within a healthcare or social services setting. Would you be interested in that?
As a Social Worker, you have many of the skills required to be good at HR. It would be a big change in some ways and you would have to learn a whole new language and relevant laws, but you probably do have the skill set to do HR and it would take you out of direct patient contact.
I moved to working for insurance first as someone who called patienta to give them support then as the "red tape" who reviewed admissions for medical necessity. The pay is great, the corporate structure was soul sucking, and they have lay offs. Just my experience.
Transitioning out of direct patient care as an LCSW can open up various opportunities. Consider roles in healthcare administration, research, education, or consulting. Explore your interests, skills, and networking to find a suitable alternative career path.
