I’m a Senior Product Manager at a large company, overseeing two products. My manager has asked how I’d like to grow, so she can help create a plan for my career development. My ultimate goal is to become a CPO. I plan to work here for 2 more years and switch to a better paying one. How can I chart a trajectory to align with this aspiration, and what courses or skills should I focus on? For context, I already have an MBA from a top business school

Connections... see if you can have one-on-ones with members of the ELT, or even your boss' boss. Connections, mentorship, etc. are how many Leadership jobs happen.

People Management Skills... transitioning from individual contributor to people manager can be a challenge. See if you can get some direct reports and eventually get a "Manager" job title.

Successes... managing two products sounds impressive, unless those two products are failures. Look for hard "outcomes" from your work, such as increases in sales/revenues, improved NPS scores, fewer IT support calls, etc.

Thank you!

You will be needing to shift from worker bee to strategic and values of the work. Delegation will also become more and more important.

I would start looking at possible CPO type events or organizations to get involved with. Some product folks go to local community business groups to drum up business.

I have heard that Learning sales or sales techniques can help a ton at that level.

And signing up for toastmasters or public speaking, presenting, etc will help with professional presence and networking.

Foreign LLM student here. I plan to take the NY bar exam in February. I’m thinking of taking a bar prep course (most likely Barbri). They offer two options: the “traditional” course (which lasts around 2.5 months) and an extended 6-month course. The difference in price is substantial – 2.5k for the traditional course vs 6k for the extended one. Any thoughts/recommendations on which one I should take? In case it is helpful, I come from a civil law country. Thanks!

I’ve been told my company is changing my title from Associate Director of BD to Sales Executive. I’m concerned it reads like a title demotion. Is it just semantics? How will this look for my career development? Curious about the standard perception of Sales Executive from a seniority perspective. Where does this land on the sales roles hierarchy? For context, it’s a professional services firm, I’ve been there 3+years, and they gave a Sales Executive title to someone who just started 5mo ago.

Hello folks,

My current ctc is 23lpa and I have offer of around 36lpa in India
However i am getting an onsite opportunity In Denmark, what should be my expected ctc there? Considering the country is much expensive. If anyone has done research regarding cost of living in Denmark earlier, please share your thoughts on this, it would be very helpful. They are willing to offer 60k euros, but I feel 36 lpa in india is better deal. Companies are equivalent.

Are you responsible for giving performance feedback? Avoid giving personality based feedback. Examples include telling an Asian person they are too quiet/shy or telling a Black person they are agressive/abrasive. DO NOT DO THIS. It clearly represents bias in Performance Management. Performance feedback should be tied to business outcomes with clear examples of what the person does well + how they can improve.

Working at a boutique transactiona firm. First year did not receive much guidance and made a few errors, one of which could have been a deal but ended up being fine but overall I worked hard, billed hours above target and showed a willingness to learn. Three main partners in the group. I feel like I may have been written off by the one partner, still get a fair amount of work from another and the third has never really given work but has a rep for doing things alone or using seniors. I've been interviewing with some companies, and now I have to decide between JPMorgan Chase and Globant.

Globant is more innovative, and has remote work. I will enter to work with a Sillicon Valley startup based in San Francisco. The tech stack is React, Nextjs, AWS, and a serverless architecture.

JPM is semi remote, and less innovative. The tech stack Java, SpringBoot and AWS. But I'd do more migration tasks, like dockerize projects and pass them to kubernetes. What would you choose?
