Yes! Do it. This is the one time you can take that break in a 30 year or so career without it being questioned. The time with children goes by so fast. Don't miss it for work. The work will always be there. Kids are only babies for a brief moment.
I took 14 weeks several years ago, didn't change my progression at the firm. I am extremely happy I made the decision and have never regretted it for a second.
I know 2 guys in my office who used most- if not all- of their 16 weeks
Wow I appreciate my husband even more than before.
If you had a child, D6 you would why 16 weeks doesn't seem ridiculous. Please see EY2's response
By the way, what makes you think that taking 16 weeks off means you won't do any work. They can do some work from home if THEY so choose. It is not required that they do amy work while on paternity leave. I say if they can take the full 16, they should take it. I am not sure how many will because well leta face it.. after 3 months of watching the kid, you need some adult interaction. Believe me your spouse will need it as well. One spouse going out and having interactions will help the spouse staying at home have adult conversations other than "guess what the baby did today"
Do any of us actually like these jobs enough? Your life isn't going to change after 16 weeks. No one's going to decide you can't be partner because you prioritized what actually matters.
^meant as response to PwC5 bitching about how 4 months of paid benefit is unnecessary to take care of a child that you created.
^Agree there are interesting questions surrounding it, but these don't really matter. The firm should consider this BEFORE giving the benefit. It's not as if you're going rogue and doing this on your own. You are using a firm benefit that is part of the benefit plan. Same as PTO. These same questions can be asked of PTO. Do you not use your PTO benefit?
^of course you talk to your team about it. I'm not saying don't prepare accordingly, but if you want to take the full benefit that the firm gives you then you should be able to work it out.
Look if you can't adjust to these challenges then maybe you're not as dynamic of an employee as you think you are. Of course they are challenges, but they are not impossible challenges to overcome. It's certainly manageable if handled correctly.
They made the leave for a reason. But also don't abuse it. Try 12?
16 weeks is ridiculous, but it it's available I'm for sure taking that time. I think someone said it before take it in periods of time so you're not out for 4 months straight if possible
Aren't u going into a senior manager role next year ? You've worked with the partners for 7+ years, you should know how they would respond.
Take em all
Take the time - I'm ending 4 weeks of leave right now, wishing it was 4 months but my wife isnt working.
Is this post serious. As a dad, my firm gave me 2 weeks paid and that's it. Only moms got 12 weeks
Yes. Deloitte gives you 16 weeks, men or women. Question is whether it's reasonable for me to do that.
This is not what's going to make or break you for being partner.
Also will your kid be better off when you die at 65 because you're a partner? Partners on average have life spans that are 7-10 years shorter than the general public.
Audit. I'm the lead Manager (no SM) on a big client. There are two new Managers on the job. Wife is due in late June. I was thinking I'd take off a week when kid arrives, go back for the last two weeks of the 10-Q, then take off most of August, and call it a day
June? And you're crying about this now?! Lmao. My wife is due end of month lmao. Also a manager here on a large public company.
