Hi Fishes, I have been offered by Cognizant Consulting to move to UK for a short term. However I have my permanent braces treatment going on in India. Can anyone guide if Cognizant Consulting (UK) covers dental treatment in insurance. Can anyone also let me know how much does braces treatment cost in London? Cognizant

Yes! Do it. This is the one time you can take that break in a 30 year or so career without it being questioned. The time with children goes by so fast. Don't miss it for work. The work will always be there. Kids are only babies for a brief moment.
I took 14 weeks several years ago, didn't change my progression at the firm. I am extremely happy I made the decision and have never regretted it for a second.
You're screwed lol. Congrats.
Lol hence why I'm only taking 2 weeks
Yea, pto or 3 months unpaid. But as manager I have to be there for filing (so they tell me)
I'd still try for like 6-8 weeks in total after you get out the 10-Q. So, take off 2 weeks, and then go out for 6 weeks when you can. Your wife will thank you and value your help. Consider it a down payment on next busy season. As managers we have to model this kind of flexibility to affect positive change on our teams :-)
On your deathbed "Man, I'm really glad I worked so much, it matters a lot now"
You're a guy. 16 weeks is insane.
They give it for a reason and I would take advantage of it. You're also not sending out a good message to those below you if you come back from paternity leave early because you feel like you have to. All about the "tone at the top"
Why is 16 weeks insane for a guy? It's half his responsibility.
Believe to take the 16 weeks you have to be the primary care giver. I assume if your wife is returning to work you would qualify for the 16 weeks. I'd say go with 6 weeks.
If they offer it, take it. You can always hop to another firm if they are dicks when you get back
The wrong message? If they didn't want you to take the time, they wouldn't offer it
Um. See prev post about millenials. 4 months? (I'm in the boomer generation).
Just sounds selfish. You'd rather have someone take a week off so you aren't personally inconvenienced and sacrifice their time with their newborn. Nobody cares, it's his baby and it's more important than work.
@D6... how does any of that matter? If the company was going to do layoffs, the last thing they consider is their overstressed managers/seniors/staff. They do what is in the companies best intrest. Why should an employee not use what is given as a benefit to do what is in their best interest? The fact is that whether or not OP take his full 16 weeks, the company will go on just fine and get the work done. These companies have gotten away with enough. It is about time that they give back and help create some kind of work/life balance.
^Which the company is doing by giving the benefit. It's managers and SMs like those above that give hassle when trying to take benefits that make it an issue. This is why the firms have such high turnover and lose some of their best employees year over year.
There is a timeline and pwc is exactly like school. It is identical to high school
Dude, you are a senior manager. Stand for something that sets an example at your firm. Demonstrate that you value your firm. Take the 16 weeks. If it hasn't been done before that's ok. You be the first to do. Spending time with your newborn and helping your wife is way more important than trying to impress your coworkers with how hard you work. Let valuing your family be a part of your brand. Your wife will be recovering from having a baby and the early days with a newborn is a precious bonding time with your family that You will never regret pausing from your busy schedule to be in the moment and enjoy the baby. On the contrary several years from now and you look back on your life you may regret putting work ahead of binding with your baby and spending time with your wife. Taking 16 weeks off is the least you can do and if you as hard a worker a you say you are even with all the politics at work, this should not impact your chances at making manager.
* impact your chances at making partner
Yea but as a male I don't want to be the first one in my office to do that. Wonder if it'd make me seem like not partner material
What city?
