Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

Is it an immediate need? I was in your position a few years ago and then moved in house and am now actually about to take my boss’s job. So my salary will be more than 3x what it was as an AS at an agency.
Soft skills translate really well into going in-house because once you are in, almost all you do is navigate internal politics, build relationships and make judgment calls. So I’d go in house for both immediate and long term salary growth (if you can hold out another year or two, your skills will increase more at an agency and you’ll likely be able to come in at a higher level in house).
It is definitely tough and I got rejected from a lot of jobs before my current role. You have to be a very good fit with industry experience. I also ended up coming in at a slightly lower level than I was hoping.
I recommend Cal Newport's book, "So Good They Can't Ignore You." Theres a lot in there about how to make changes like the one you described. Very fast read and very information-heavy, not a lot of fluff. You're looking to negotiate with your career capital, check it out
That's great to hear. I dream of a world where advertising accepts his hypotheses at large. On another thread, a junior was having trouble managing tasks and I asked him how he tracks his time. An account exec swooped in and said "why would someone track their time?" 😅😅 We got a long way to go. All Cal's books are good. Deep Work I recommend next. Best of luck
Go to Project Management. I did work my way up to Account Manager then immediately transferred to Sr PM where the pay matched. Feel free to DM if you want to chat in more depth.

Whether you stay in account or go into Project Management, a PMP certification is a good idea to develop transferable hard skills that will translate well into just about any industry.
I highly recommend going in house but at a tech company. I went from 95k to 210k, 4.5 YOE. Account management felt like such a dead end for me so i understand how you feel.
Same boat here, no shot I can go back to school so grinding it out for now. Biggest lie ever told to me was that I’m worth more if I stay in account and learn a little bit of everything instead of specializing.
That is absolutely not a lie. It makes you extremely versatile and much easier to get a job when you’re more senior. It shows you can learn and be successful at anything!
If staying within the industry, go to the healthcare marketing side. Easily a 15-20% bump for the same position
