I'm currently a Financial Consulting Director at a large top 10 CPA firm (technical accounting advisory, SEC reporting, IPO readiness etc). I don't want to be a partner, I don't even like accounting that much, I am just really good at it and just kept going with it.
I want to change careers and am really interested in the VC space. My plan is to come into a VC in their operations team and use that as a pivot eventually into real fund work.
Thoughts? Anyone with experience here?

I think people work in that field would give you better answer… you don’t ask these type of questions from a brunch of people have no clue themselves …. Most accountants don’t have vision

I think it’s almost impossible without rebrand, the market not people would place you to where you perform with highest efficiency, it’s kinda hard for someone just pick you up and say I think this Director with over 10 years in accounting can do VC finance, while their pine line has tons of fresh students coming out with finance degree, including EMBAs graduates…

SC1s' agreed. I have experience in a different industry prior to pa in finance. Ironically, managers and directors that worked in the same sector for 10 years have an unrealistic assessment as to their skills set and many do not have the right personality. You might be good at auditing or consulting work, but It is not the same experience required to move into VC. Most md can't even close the month. Sure, they can learn.

Hello!
I’m a student majoring in Software Engineering. I’m starting my third year in a few months and have an internship where I’m learning more about working with an actual team on real-world projects. However, I feel like I need to do more to stand out and have a stronger software background. Anyone have any tips or suggestions for what I should do on my own time to strengthen my skills?

AWS vs Cloudflare BDR roles

AWS lowballed but I negotiated to match Cloudflare. Cloudflare offers more equity but AWS has a higher base.

I love Cloudflare. The people are great but it’s an engineering culture and the sales team isn’t as well shaped up and I can’t go for a promotion until at least 18 months of tenure. I am an investor in the company and think of them super highly. I’ve already got half a years SDR experience and AWS promotes quicker.

AWS has prestige but is it worth it?

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)

What’s going on FB friends,

I am contemplating a move to industry working at a VC, Tax Director role east coast. Looks like it will be primarily overseeing compliance with some aspect of advising on structures etc. There is another tax reporting head above me.

The potential comp is the low 200k with a 10% bonus (still higher than what I am making). I feel this is pretty low for VC standards but maybe my standards are also too high. I have generally seen 25% bonus with carry.
