This reminds me of my journey through the Unabomber’s literary corpus. I started with Industrial Society and its Future, of course, and he makes it seem like the future is going to be this horrible dystopia where we’re all medicated beyond hope of rebellion and we’re reduced to cogs in this awful universal machine. This sounded pretty cool so I read his more recent Anti-Tech Revolution: Why and How. In this book he just opines that we’re all going to die from global warming or something and seems not to believe we’ll evolve into some cool cyberpunk hellscape. Kinda lame tbh. For this reason I do not recommend this book.

Mass population die-offs due to weather volatility (hurricanes, heatwaves, etc), resource shortages (drinking water), and viral pandemics.
There’ll be stragglers that will endure into the long-tail of the end of humanity, we’ve always been a persistent species. But yeah, surface conditions are in all likelihood getting too inhospitable for us before anything like the death of the sun happens.
AP1, I agree with BC1, but I don’t think it’s happening anywhere close to the next 80-100 years. The next generation will be fine

Sun will not become a supernova. It will become a red giant. It will burn off the earths atmosphere and everything living and non-living on earth. This is about 5 billion years away. I think we will all be gone well before that. Not sure to what tho.
I’m curious tho, how are dinosaurs supposed to resurrect themselves? Will they not be better off starting a religion and let people kill each other off on the basis of this new religion instead? .. I mean if at all they can resurrect themselves.

“We are all going to die” and “end of the world” are separate events. You and your friend will likely die in your early 80s after spending 50 years of your life contributing to the advancement of capitalism and rise in inequality.
How the world is going to end is someone else’s problem. Homo sapiens itself is only 300,000 years old, so maybe we won’t even be called that by the time the sun goes kaput

Well… there have been 5 mass extinctions in the earth’s history so far and most were related to climate change in one direction or another. Not sure if our current man made climate crisis will reach the same scale of change. I’m putting my money on crazy volcanic activity or an asteroid. Let’s see if tardigrages can go 6 for 6.
I too remember some of the conversions I had with friends in the 7th grade.

There isn't going to be end of the world. But there is going to be end of human civilization partially. I think it would be because of a meteorite or some man-made catastrophe which will spiral the world into a war and kill 60% of the population. 40% will live happily though after that.

Disease or bioweapon.
Nukes for most of us. The others (ie countries not important enough to be targeted directly) will slowly die out over 3-4 generations from disease/nuclear pollution, famine and maybe small-scale wars.

Our sun isn't large enough to supernova, so you're definitely more likely to be right than your friend. It's not even large enough to end up as a neutron star. It'll end up as a white dwarf. Once it reaches the end of its main phase, it'll collapse and heavier elements will start to fuse in the core. Its temperature will rise and the outer layers of the sun will greatly expand and engulf the Earth during the red giant phase. Then it'll collapse into a white dwarf. This will start 5 billion years ish. So my guess is something else will kill us before then. Climate change. Asteroid impact. Global pandemic with a much higher mortality rate than our current one. Man-made weapons of mass destruction. I'd say any of those are more likely just given how much more time the sun has in its main phase.
