That’s why I said regardless of the interest rate. Pay off both high and low interest debt
At least get the match for retirement.
Roth IRA accounts are great to split the difference, because you can withdraw contributions at any time.
I would start contributing to your retirement account, asap. Depending how aggressive you want to be, 3-10% is normal and usually you can get an employer match up to a certain percentage. You can also start saving for a down payment in a HYSA, rates are almost up to 5%. I like SoFi and am at 4.6%. If you have no debt outside of normal living expenses, make sure you have a budget and save as much as you can, wherever you’d like. Rich Habits is a good podcast that talks about investing.
Retirement!!
Time is the biggest benefit with retirement accounts. if you're not at least getting what the company is matching, you're leaving money on the table. Once matching, my rec is to set up a High Yield Savings account and have an amount you're comfortable with direct deposited in the account each time you get paid. Houses can have lots of unexpected costs-don't rush it.
Would it be better to max out a Roth IRA and just contribute the match in your employer sponsored plan? My employer offers true up but not a in plan conversion Roth
Given how huge returns have become on homes, it could work in your favor to prioritize this first.
If you can save for both both, the compound interest from funds invested in securities through a 401(k) or ira will be substantial three decades from now.
I would use a money market or at least a CD to store your down payment cash so that it grows
You’re gonna be good.
Best time to plant a tree was yesterday. Next best time is today.
Los Angeles.
Do you even want a home or are you being pressured ? Homeowner ship for me is stupid I don’t know how to fix anything or do men type tasks. Makes sense for me to rent and contribute 15 into my 403b. I’m considering just the employer match focus on maxing out a Roth IRA again I’m a usless man if something breaks I’m not fixing I’m too cute

Buying a home usually only makes sense if you plan to live there for 5 plus years. It is not always that great of a return when you factor in all the costs of transacting a home, maintenance, etc. Also, depending on where you live and income, you could qualify for a 0% down USDA loan and there are other first time home buyer loans (3% down I think). Some people even buy duplexes as first homes to get into the real estate business and have the other tenants pay some of their mortgage. (House hacking)
Depending on your style, checkout "the money guys," "Remit Sethi" and "bigger pockets money show" (real-estate focused) on YouTube. They have some sound advice similar to the graphic someone posted earlier.
I am a huge fan of the Financial order of operations. Check out the Money Guy show on YouTube
