I have over 15 years in HR, an MBA, PHR & SHRM-CP certifications & experience in healthcare, retail, logistics, & manufacturing.

I started as a desktop publisher but my position grew into graphic design. I’m the sole designer at my account, and I also do the job of a production artist. I have no backup. I make $54,000 a year and work in Madison, WI. I do the work of at least two designers. I love my job, but am I being underpaid?

Just finished a Vice documentary on “The Villages” in Florida. It suddenly hit me that the Boomer generation will be a statistical outlier when compared to previous and post generations. As a millennial I’ve come to grips that my family and I won’t have the same country and lifestyle my parents had. Holding 80% of the wealth has its benefits.

Had to work 2 projects that required me to work day, night, and multiple weekends because SM relied mostly on me and the rest of my team weren't capable of delivering quality work hence more weight shifted to my plate. Few sleepless nights have been hard and I always hope it doesn't hurt my baby. Thank God, my second trimester is easier as nausea's gone by then. Countdown to 5 more weeks when this project finally where I'll be 30 wks prego, it just reminds me how strong we all are. I'm also asking the same SM to approve my maternity leave in 2 weeks and he doesn't know I'm pregnant yet (I don't show much and don't disclose unless asked explicitly because I feel shame due to being a 2nd year analyst). He always thanks me in front of partners for my exemplary work, and I will just be so proud when he finds out I managed to do all that while pregnant 💜

They won't schedule discovery calls for technical issues, and instead, they're concentrating on showcasing new features.

My company doesn’t care about branding or marketing. We’re 10 years old and we don’t even have brand guidelines. How do I operate with these constraints? Our branding is dated, ugly, and inconsistent.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I am now looking into getting my HR Certification, but am stuck in between the PHR-CA or the SHRM-CP. Does anyone have any recommendations they can give me?

SPHR exam- has anyone ever been “randomly selected” for an application audit? This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through. Since I didn’t finish undergrad, they’re asking for a copy of my high school diploma or transcript and that itself is going to be an absolute nightmare to get hold of. Guess I’m not really looking for a solution here, just venting.

Any advice on passing the SHRM exam the first time around?

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?

Is this legal? My spouses company just decided to change their comp structure for account managers. It was base + comm, now it’s commission only but nothing changed, OT commission is the same, didn’t get more points, just took away the base pay and said work harder basically. So now they have to worker harder to get $50k they were already making. (Not a decision based on employee performance, they’ve been crushing it. I think the company is just trying to save money they overspent else where)
