I’d be interested to know why.
My hunch is they’re combining the two because there’s probably less big brand work being done and more quick hits on social that need to feel strategically different under the same platform. Which is still not the right way to go about things, but hey, anything to save a buck!
Having hired a bunch of strategists, I can tell you it makes a world of difference when they know how to do the work they’re strategizing.

They want creators who understand channel and content strategy. Most strategists are ok storytellers so there’s more bang for your buck even if creatives would create better content. Also, half decent content from a strategist is better than AI slopaganda.
I think there is some confusion about the “creative strategist” title/role. I stopped using it, as I have seen the job descriptions are basically a performance/paid ads person. (CAN & USA)
Might be different in other countries?
I guess a creative director is someone with a very strong academic background and therefore more expensive. Many content creators these days, people who didn't really study and are more technical than anything. That also explains the cultural decline I guess
