I’m starting to feel like maybe a paralegal just isn’t for me. I have 6 years experience and I’m not sure what other type of job I could get other than that and I feel like if I move firms then I am just starting at the bottom again and won’t have seniority etc. what kind of job can I get that will pay me more and my skills could transfer over to?

What is it about being a paralegal you don’t like? What are you looking for in a job? In my experience that role is vastly different depending on the firm/corporation/agency. Area of law and frankly level of jerk-ness of the attorneys you support makes a huge difference as well.

Thinking of moving from B4 to Accenture or Slalom. I mostly do Epic stuff. Pros seem to be no audit/independence crap, less travel, more tech work. Any cons?

I have a few questions for people in consulting roles (both external/internal).

My partner is in corporate banking, but he wants to switch to a consulting/strategy-based role. I noticed people with those jobs typically have an MBA, and also majority of the job ads in similar roles has MBA as either a requirement or preferred qualification. So:

1) does MBA actually improve someone's chance in getting those roles?
2) are there any good Canadian MBA programs you'd recommend?

Thank you all!

Hi everyone, I'm new to Canada and want to start my career here in the Financial and Banking industry. I have passed the CFA level 2 exam and was wondering if I have to complete the Canadian Securities Course (CSC) as most of the job postings here mention about it. I saw that if someone passes at least the CFA level 1 exam then the requirement of CSC is exempted. Can anyone enlighten me about this? As the CSC exam costs above 1000 CAD, I wanted to be sure if I need it before investing behind it.

Have a big interview tomorrow. The question I dread the most is about why you’re looking for a new job. The honest answer is that there isn’t enough work to go around at my agency and I want to get ahead of the inevitable layoffs. What’s the best way to tell them this? Do I just make something else up entirely?

I have a new employee that started last Monday, unfortunately it’s not going to work out. Long story, but we’re fairly certain the individual is using Meth and appears to have started/restarted fairly recently. I work with physicians, so it’s a consensus. We have to terminate employment, but what ethical obligation do we have? Two young children at home and no spouse. This is weighing heavily on us.

I’ve been practicing in both big law (many yrs ago) and now in-house for over 10 years. Quite often I struggle because I don’t find work fulfilling. I’ve been in industries that allegedly have greater cause (healthcare) but was eventually disappointed by the corporate bureaucracy and went to a cutting-edge tech company for intellectual stimulation. Still I struggle. Should I try public interest? Not that I don’t need the money but it’s hard to work when I am so detached and find it meaningless
