First, I am so sorry you are going through this 🙏🏾 While you are figuring out next steps why not rent a WeWork space so you have an “office” to go to or work from a cafe for a few hours a day.

Sorry to hear about your situation. I would start with maybe taking some time off so you can focus on getting your personal life together. It's holiday season so it's also not a great time to be alone. So make sure both you and your partner have some support. Especially since you don't have family around. I once got out from a long term relationship right around Christmas and decades later I still can't listen to Christmas songs without being depressed. And I also don’t have family around, so I can relate to that too. Can't stress that enough. Whatever you end up doing, find people you love to be around and talk.

🤗🤗🤗 Have you considered couple's therapy?

Sorry that you’re going through this. I would recommend therapy for yourself first. To allow you think and process through what your next step should be so that you’re not moving and making decisions based just emotions. Can you afford to move out? And pay rent or mortgage in two places? Do you have friends or a support system for when you move out? How/when do you have the conversation of moving out? Preparing for what the outcome of that conversation could be. Therapy will help you think through and plan properly so that you’re prepared regardless of what you choose to do. Goodluck!!

Do what you gotta do. Find a place to live that will be your sanctuary. Maybe move in there as a trial, while you go to couples counseling? Find the place first. So you have somewhere to land and take care of yourself.

Have now worked entirely remote for over a year after having only worked in an office for a few months. It’s my normal and I’m far more productive and available from home than in an office. Anyone know of good companies or law firms that have embraced a permanent remote working model now?? If they’re remote but location dependent, I’m in the Chicago market.

For those of you who spent a long time in big law (at least 10 years but more along the lines of 15+), when did you know it was time to do something else (maybe in the law, maybe not)? I don’t know if it’s wfh or just the work now, but I’m finding myself getting amazingly frustrated at things that barely bothered me before. I had an argument with opposing counsel last week and was seeing red for hours after that, and little things seem to bother me much much more than they would have before

I have work to do but I’m tired so gonna take a short nap. I’ll finish later and work late if I need to. I won’t miss a deadline, and my team won’t suffer. Good night! This has been an ad for keeping WFH/hybrid going instead of forcing people in 5 days a week.

I could really use insight. I’m a Rockstar in my dept/team. Ask me to take on a new project and I can get it done. I delegate tasks and partner with other lines of business. I am knowledgeable, punctual, communicative and competent. I can learn new skills/programs easily (SQL, Verint Speech Analytics, pivot tables in Excel.) My pain point is summed up: “Overlooked.” I am not a member of mgmt but want to pursue opportunities. How’ve you asked for mentorship? Tips on standing out in WFH setting?

For my folks at Deloitte , which would you choose 1.GPS, 4-5 days in office due to SCIF related work and long commute 2.USDC, wfh 3-5 days and commute would be short if I ever have to go in. Do any USDC positions require a clearance and if not could they hold it? Keep in mind, I don’t have salary information yet And is the Delivery Center that bad? I read a lot of reviews on it here....LOL

I see a lot of sentiment on here about consultants struggling to be productive the longer wfh goes because of burnout. Honestly, I don't feel nearly as productive as I was when we were on site working 8-8 with the need to appear productive due to 'optics'. With the burnout from wfh, consultants are starting to be valued less highly by industry?

Do you think post-covid that companies will ever keep their tech employees in NYC? I’m a software engineer for a financial company and already am probably one of the last people to RTO if/when that happens. But now I’m thinking that this situation has proven that they don’t need to take on the costs of having SWEs in a HCOL city if all of us can WFH/work from a LCOL city with same results. Kinda bummed bc I’m a new hire and I never even got to move there... should I lower my expectations?

Hi Everyone! It’s almost the end of the year and I decided that it’s time for a change in my career. I have been working as a business analyst at JNJ, with about 4 years of experience and halfway done with my MBA. I would like to move into a project management role (I have worked on my scrum master certification). I make about 68k a year and I feel like I’m due for a huge pay raise. I have been asking 105k-120k which companies have been open to. Am I asking for the appropriate amount?

As a heads up. If any of you are interviewing at Facebook and were planning to leverage their offer to negotiate at another company, they will recall their emails to you with any offer information as soon as they think it’s a no. I told them I was not interested 2 hours ago because it was an exploding offer (even though I haven’t finished negotiating my other offers), and the email is already gone. Thankfully I took a screenshot as soon as I got it.
