Congratulations on your move to a larger NYC firm! To transition confidently, focus on your strengths, network, and seek mentorship. Many have faced challenges moving between NJ and NYC firms; staying adaptable is key. Moving past negative experiences involves self-care, growth mindset, and learning from setbacks. Camaraderie may vary, but seek connections that align with your values. Starting your firm is a bold option; evaluate your passion, resources, and market potential. Trust your instincts, embrace new opportunities, and remember, your journey shapes your success.
I'm assuming you've met some people from the new firm. How does the vibe there seem so far? It can be difficult getting adjusted somewhere new, and getting past negative experiences. It's something I'm dealing with right now too, so I'd love to hear what others say. Good luck! When do you start?
I'll start on 8/21. Interestingly, I used to work with many on my new team from my government job. The person who recruited me also worked with me there, which I appreciate. Additionally, I won't be the only associate on the team, so I'll have others to consult, not just senior management. The vibe, however, is vastly different now. During my interview, the managing partner introduced me to all the associates, providing an opportunity for an open conversation—something I hadn't experienced before. They appear to have a solid mentoring program, and both current and former associates have praised the managing partner. Given past disappointments, I reached out via LinkedIn to those who previously worked at my new firm. I especially connected with POC in the same practice group to gauge the culture. Despite this, I'm anxious due to past negative experiences, fearing this role might end up like previous ones.
