Is it okay to call your superior officers by their first name when you see each other off-duty?

Christ. No.

Like, you don’t have to give everything in a sir sandwich. However, acknowledge them and move along. Even all my guys that I liked and I just greeted one another and moved on with our shopping or meal as quickly as possible on the rare occasions we bumped into one another out in town.

Stop being weird.

It's personal preference, really... I know some that prefer it and others that hate it.

No. Welcome to the military.

Hell no!

Please tell me this is a bogus question

Nope, that will be looked poorly upon you. Don't do it!

This is a grey area, if you have to think twice about it then it’s probably a no. If you bump into them outside of work then just greet them like you would a normal human being and by that I don’t mean like you would greet your friends. Officers are people they’re not unicorns. Just be normal.

Depends. I’m an O1, and I would call an O2 and maybe an O3 by their first name outside of work. It depends on the person. O4 and up is definitely “sir” tho

No please do not do that. You will be embarrassed really badly at that moment and once you get back to your post

Networking question here. A retired partner at the firm I used to work out reached out to me recently about attending an afternoon during the week (b4 4/30) with one of his long time clients. The partner and I have kept in touch since I joined my new firm and I feel like his invitation is a great networking opportunity since the client (who I have worked with before) is on a number of boards. Torn as how to request off as an S3. Could materialize to nothing but could be good for reconnecting.

I work at a ‘free market’ firm and have developed a very good reputation among partners. Naturally, they are drowning me in work. Each time a new case comes up, the partner will email asking if I have “time and interest” in helping. When I’m at capacity, I take these words at face value and explain why I can’t do it, and that seems to work out ok with no hard feelings. But what’s the “interest” thing? If I don’t want to work on a toxic tort case, do I just say that and pass?

Need advice - I've been talking to a Partner contact at a big-4 firm where I REALLY want to work. She sent my info to the managing partner in my city, but I haven't heard anything for about 3 weeks. Been playing it cool because I know these things can take time, BUT, I just got let go from my current firm. I have til 12/15 to find a new job.

Do I tell her my timeline is now a month, or is telling them I'm getting fired going to tank my chances of getting the job?
