Fairly personal/ subjective question, but if you were to do a time budget between a) work b) masters c) cpa d) life e) personal time - what % goes into each and are you OK with this allocation?
Second this and also try sticking to the time budget and pretend it's busy season work hours as a trial period. That will help you determine whether it all works with your family and full time work schedule at the worst time of year. Personally, having done a masters while working full time and then doing the cpa while working full time in audit, I can't imagine doing all 3 while also being able to spend time with kids.
Pro
I'd decide between cpa or master's to prioritize, and just do 1 at a time. Yes it's possible but personally I'd feel like I'm burning the candle at both ends trying to manage work, parental responsibilities, studying for school and studying for cpa
I really want to avoid taking the revised version of BEC and I just don’t know how to go about that
Yes. I had a classmate who did that and passed all 4 parts in one testing window (two months)
Actually, she was.
You’ll have to sacrifice a lot, but it’s doable if you want it and are extremely disciplined (which I’d imagine you are if you’re even considering this).
Would recommend getting CPA done before starting at Big4 full time…at least two parts with a strict plan to finish the other two between busy seasons in your first year.
Yes but being a parent is a full-time job too. I would put a study plan on paper and just look at the schedule. Sleep on it. Then decide if it’s truly something that can fit into your schedule
Yes, I did a masters & then the CPA with one child @ elementary school while working 2 busy seasons per year @ B4. I have 50/50 custody of my son, but no family nearby. If you set your mind to it, you can do it!
It's not possible for the average person especially if you still want to spend time with your kids, but it's not impossible either.
Possible but will require a lot of commitment and sacrifice of 97% of your personal time. Study hard, use family help, be mentally fit to combat stress.
Most important question is how old/self sufficient are your kids? I did this with a baby and don’t regret it but two is a whole other story.
They’re almost 3 and 4
My dad this with a 1 and 6 year old. I “helped” by going through flash cards with him (I couldn’t read so not much help but I still take credit!)
Lol
I had 2 littles (3 and 5) when I studied for customs broker license (not even close to how extensive CPA is) then started MBA after passing that...all while working full time (not Big 4). It was tough. I'd recommend focusing on one and then the other. You still want to have some time with your kids, even if you do have help! Even doing it this way, you sacrifice a lot.
I did a Masters and a F500 internship at the same time last year, and it didn't feel sustainable at all. Didn't have kids or a partner either.
Doing all three sounds incredibly challenging, but I don't want this to deter you though. My issue is that my work quality definitely suffered with both, especially since I was committed to getting enough sleep each night.
My two cents: I'd focus on two at a time (PwC + CPA, then move onto the Masters (if you have the 150 already)).
If you can take the financial hit, could you ask PwC to put you on a reduced work schedule? Not sure if they do that for educational reasons though
I wanna add (really not trying to toot my own horn) that i was pretty disciplined during that time, and still am
