yes, we're "all laid off." shut it all down and closed for business lol. yes, we now have slightly lower than our normal astronomical growth and have had record retention the last few years but put a fork in us, we're totally done.
The rule of thumb is to avoid a company at its low point. They might give you an offer now but will definitely lay you off within a few months if their situation doesn't change
Part of the higher than usual annual purge is bc we are growing at like 4-5% instead of 14%. Still need people.
Thanks for the clarification, this is all I was looking for - not trying to hyperbolize the situation as others have pointed out.
As much as you would think they would place candidates internally, the Big 4 leadership isn't bright enough to think of leveraging in-house staff could do wonders to the employee morale and in many cases with minimal training, bring efficiency and cost effectiveness. When I was laid off, I tried working with the HR team, and it was evident that they had no intention of placing me elsewhere despite there being clear match in skills in open roles elsewhere within the firm
That's because their job, at the time, was to meet a headcount of lay off's which matched the criteria they had come up to choose which demography to lay off. Once you made the cut, there is no way they will work with you on anything other than the lay off. I don't work in HR... Just guessing.
Why TF do you want to come here if you’re worried about layoffs? Are you ready for that daily stress of looking over your shoulder, wondering if you’ll be next? Have you ever been to prison?
If you're on an H1b, I would sit this one out. Not worth the risk of being laid off down the line if things don't change at D... Even if they offer you 10-20k more for now.
If h1b is not in the equation, and the offer, if it comes, is significant enough, especially if there is a large sign on bonus, then you may want to consider the risks... You will eventually find something else but with a large bonus, minus tax, in your bank account. Trade off would be explaining the gap in your resume but if it's not too long, that won't be a problem.
