Is it unrealistic of me to sit for the CFP exam in March if I start studying next week? I have three years of experience as an FA and I plan to study 2 hrs/night Mon-Thurs and all day on Sat/Sun

Yes. I just passed in September and your timeline is super tight. I doubt it. I’m 5 years in the biz

Did you complete the education requirement?

No not yet

From start to finish it took me 8 weeks to complete all education requirements, study and pass the exams. I say yes if you are dedicated. I was working full time and had two small children so I could only do classes at night and on the weekends.

Oh that’s awesome! I wonder if it changes from when I took it. I was told I had to complete and pass the exam within two years.

I don't think it is unrealistic.

That was roughly my timeframe, so I’d say that’s plenty. I’d only adjust that upwards if you don’t test well.

Based upon what I have seen, figure most people need 150-200 hours to study for the actual exam. Hint: it’s all about the practice questions.

It's possible if you stick to that and give up your social life. I ended up completing the whole thing in 6 months ( with tiny break in between education and final exam). Recommend using American college or Dalton. GL

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.

Big law specialist with an offer to be the CFO and GC of a 250M AUM hedge fund. All in comp would probably be ~$300k, so about $100k less than where I would be in big law (including bonus). Potential to get involved in the business side, but most likely more of a back office role (I would also be the only legal hire - main goal would be cutting outside legal cost and streamlining processes). Does this sound like an attractive offer? What exit options would I have?

Wondering if anyone has any insight into the program (exits, etc) and how the return offer looks like in terms of salary. I still also hold an interest in data science so might go with another offer but I’m not sure if it is a wise choice to let go of a PM offer while I have it.

CFP study programs:

I'm a little confused on Danko - does he offer a self-study option for the coursework requirement? On his website it looks like each module has a 4-day virtual class which I wouldn't be able to attend due to working full time. Does this program also include self-study material, and the classes are just supplementary/optional? I was also looking at Dalton for self-study and Danko for test prep. Thoughts?
