200 base at 27 at KPMG?? 🤔
245 base kpmg here.. advisory
Considering MBB hires start at 175k base, likely not.
Most consulting firms are at 190 now
200 base? Wow! Then an MBA will be a waste of two years!
Whoever starts an MBA for the money, doesn’t do it right and will likely miss out on what an MBA program is REALLY about.
Or a job at McKinsey
I’m 28 at 79 base with an MBA 😳 And here I am just hoping I’ll make it to 100 by the end of next year.
I really don’t understand why people still get an MBA, it’s not like you’re actually going to learn anything you wouldn’t while in consulting. Aside from the “networking” which you do less of in school than while working with actual clients, you can easily out-earn MBA grads by specializing and/or switching to industry in more senior roles. You end up making more, you have more experience, and you don’t have student debt.
Is the networking and cost of tuition worth it when you join a firm and end up making the same or less than people without an MBA in industry? You spent two years paying to network while they spent those two years getting paid to network AND gaining professional experience.
Are you optimizing your life purely for money? Then likely not.
Same boat and have decided to forgo the 2 year FT MBA for now. Still definitely considering an EMBA down the line to make sure I’m not counted out of opportunities just because I don’t have it.
This smart. PT MBA is really tough in consulting, but a great experience.

I make 160k base 200k TC at 27 and don’t care to get an MBA. M7 tuition is 150-165k for two years plus all the other expenses you can be up to 230k.
I can’t see how spending 150-230k and foregoing two years of 160k+ base could possibly worth it. That’s -200k for the MBA and conservatively -100k a year in take home pay x2. So to get an MBA I would be -400k not even accounting for any salary progression, growth in role/promotion, student loans, investment contributions, etc.
I think it’s only worth if your employer covers it and you get a certain increase upon return or you get a full scholarship at M7 and really want to do something new.
Great reason to not listen to this individual

In a similar boat (over $200k base) at 27. I literally can’t imagine going to get an MBA at this point, at least not for the money. I def like the social element but opp cost is just too high

Nope. Unless you make plans to move to industry, it will not benefit you more in consulting.
What do you do?
I need to learn his/her ways thoo
What’s your role
Only if you want to pivot
Damn. I’m 29 at 83k base. I need an MBA to catch up lol
just curious what group are you in at D?
salary isn’t everything (at that point unless it is for personal reasons). depending on what you plan to do, the connections will last a lifetime if you went through the right program
I will add to this. Not consulting or business services but I have seen high flyers from industry let go during a market slowdown, and they struggled to find opportunities at the same pay scale after. I guess you could hold off until such a scenario ever arises before pushing through for an MBA. Or branch out on your own. Hopefully scenario never presents itself 🤞🏻

Same base (TC 230) as you at 28 and I’ve decided to forgo the MBA. I would’ve liked to get one, especially since my UG isn’t super impressive (T50) but ultimately I’ve had the chance to interview for any opportunity I could want (FAANG, T2/MBB, etc.)
I do wonder if that will hold me back from progressing at some point.
Not worth it unless you’re getting full ride via scholarships or using funds from family to pay your way through
