How do you all deal with the guilt of leaving a comany/ team? I have been working at Microsoft for 1 year now, and seriously considering moving. I find the code base to be very legacy and I mostly work on obscure bugs that I spend so much time on, mostly due to navigating this large code base and not having much docs to refer to. Hence I find the job slightly unsatisfying, and that I could learn more elsewhere. However, I love the wlb, the team and company culture. The guilt stops my applying.

Hi All, My sister has done Computer Science engineering Bachelor degree and has 5 years of work experience in India. She is applying for MBA at https://www.kenan-flagler.unc.edu/programs/mba/full-time-mba/ and https://kelley.iu.edu/programs/full-time-mba/academics/majors-minors/marketing.html. Her overall goal is to get into Software Product management. Any suggestions if any of these MBA’s can open path in the desired space or if she is better of doing an MS in Comp engg. to further develop deeper Technology skills. Thanks

No one who asks these questions has ever been able to define what “worth it” means.
Seriously
If you are in your 50s and the retirement age is 60, then no sense in equity partnership.
The “buy in” throws ‘em every time.
Again, explain why it doesn’t make sense to earn significantly more than you would otherwise.
Of course it is worth it. The comp ceiling is lower for a MD compared to a partner. Regardless of whether you vest fully, your annual distributions alone will be attractive.
OP, give more detail. what is the retirement age? How much buy in? And obvious Qs: is your pipe aligning to partner level growth and what about your network to go to market?
Pyramid scheme exists in all firms. You can say the same about credit sharing.
Generally current comp as a partner is far better than the other options (MD, industry, etc). Think of the retirement vesting as a cherry on top, not the main event.
25 years is a crazy long time. Also worth looking at the plan and seeing if it’s a funded vs unfunded, qualified, etc.
If you have a book, yes. Make it worth it for you..
