Easier to get into as a junior. You can try retooling to M&A

Retool to m&A. The skills are pretty transferable. I retooled to funds, but I wasn’t quite as senior as you.
Switch to M&A but volunteer for a class year cut - you know a lot already but you’ll want the extra time getting used to the flow as a “midlevel” before being expected to run deals. Does your firm have a big M&A practice?
Switch to M&A. I love working with M&A juniors who had ECVC experience. They’re able to run with so much more because fee sensitivity and general lack of capacity in the group with everyone on 10+ matters means they’re thrown into the fire way earlier. Horribly stressful, hence the switch to M&A lol, but they’re way ahead of their M&A counterparts who have trouble getting real experience in the first year or two because folks are too lazy / busy to train a first year if they’re not forced to.

There will be just as many fire drills in ECVC as M&A, except the clients are cheaper. lol

This was the hardest part. Juggling 17 tiny deals simultaneously made me want to leap through the nearest window.
I switched from EC/EB as a midlevel to employment.
Thank you! It was difficult but the right long-term fit and decision.
M&a people want to retool to ECVC and ECVC wants to retool to m&a lol. Newsflash it's all bad
Thinking of retooling to EC/VC from M&A.. anyone want to talk me out of it? Not loving M&A. Figure EC/VC will have more intriguing exits and less fire drills (including bc the clients aren’t PE funds).
I did this and went right back to M&A. You might hate your firm rather than your practice area…

What year are you?
I’m a 6th year.
Damn this is my future I'm cooked
