Did B4, mid tier, now back at big 4 (tax). In my experience, hours are 20% higher at B4 and rank to rank comparisons put mid tier professionals at least one level below B4. Based on those people I worked with in both places, you’ll be behind your peers and it will be very difficult.
What was your offer ?!!!
Rising Star
Absolutely idiotic to not take it
That means you are insanely underpaid.
I am senior and i was offered a 50% increase from all the big 4s. I ended up not taking it.

Did you leverage it for more money from BDO? I got an offer from EY In 2021 for a 35% increase, and got BDO to give me a 25% raise and one time 10k retention bonus(1 year contingent or I have to give it back, manager/advisory/HCOL) but I didn’t want to actually leave so I took a HUGE risk. I also know I can’t do that again.
Seems like it to me. Unless you think WLB would be way different at big 4 for some reason
That’s wild how much are you making at the mid tier if you don’t mind sharing
RSM 4 what's your salary/city/rank/ service line?
There's really no risk whatsoever in taking the offer. You'll get a pay bump and a Big4 name on the resume which can definitely avail more opportunities to you. If you decide you don't like it, your old firm will hire you back instantly, assuming you don't burn the bridge.
Absolutely
Do it for the money and the impact it could have in your family - right now who cares about performance, they care about bodies - B4 can’t retain anyone right now and they will give anyone just about anything to stay or come over - do it - no brainer
Furthermore, you’ll build a better network typically speaking

Can you share how much B4 offered you ?
Take it you’re not losing anything it’s really a no brained
Yes
Take it and after a year, plan for your exit if you dont like it.
50? Take it!
Yes. Take the money.
Chief
Yes take it. That’s a serious pay increase. Then refer me so I also get a 50% increase.
Assuming you just got higher salary number at mid tier due to the promotion, is the new salary 50% more than your revised mid tier number?
Take it
If you don't want to go big4 (because of hours, wlb etc...) you could probably get a significant (but not as big raise) going to a different mid-size
