I’ve worked as an Auditor in Big4 for 1 year and realized that I am far more interested in finance than accounting. What are the steps I have to take if I want to be hired as an FP&A Analyst or Investment Analyst? What are some good ways to transition?

I actually got an fp&a role right out of Deloitte. I was an efa and just got a random company to be impressed by the name on my resume vs the role I had. Was able to build my knowledge there since it was a large, older firm. Worked there for about a year and a half and then left for a tech start up where I was their first finance analyst level hire. Just keep trying it’s definitely tougher right now than when I applied (Jan 2020) but you just need one person to say yes

As for where I see myself? Hopefully in a director or senior manager position in tech. The tech industry is also leagues nicer to be in culture wise than any industry I’ve been in (real estate, public accounting/consulting, biotech, private equity, tech)

Network and start building financial models from scratch!

There are quite a few courses you can find online. Just choose the one that you feel comfortable with and get start modeling.

CFI and Wallstreet Prep are my personal favorites, but they can be pretty expensive.

Try to transfer into a valuations group internally

Are they hiring? Or would I have to wait until I got 2+ years or get senior associate title on me?

As an experienced, SHRM certified HRBP , I would just like some feedback on your opinion of the differences in the roles between an HRBP an HR Manager besides the obvious that the manager should have direct reports. I am an HRBP and work in step with 3 HRM’s. They all 3 just got out of cycle raises of between 5-20% 😳 and I received nothing. I am quite aware of our HR code that salary is confidential but I was told about this. Would you be looking for other employment? Or stay?

I’m trying to decide between the two based on long term career prospects, both offer opportunity for NEP (not sure how realistic it is at either). Also not sure of overall earning potential down the road. Is the 40K now worth it or am I likely to make that up at the Am Law 100 firm in the future?
