The vaccine is new and effects on people have not been fully studied. It’s natural to be wary of it. Even my PCP is not rushing to get it because there are still so many questions. My husband got it and had a pretty large swelling under his armpits for weeks and no one could tell him why or what to do - luckily, it went away on its own. All this is to say that it’s understandable that folks aren’t thrilled at the prospect. That doesn’t say one thing or the other about that person.
AA1, my husband is a MD and got the vaccine at his hospital. I’m pretty sure he knows what “normal” looks like for swollen lymph nodes due to a mild reaction to a vaccine. Anyway, new data indicates that patients who have had COVID before getting vaccinated tend to have more side effects (fewer side effects have been reported with Pfizer). I’ll still get the vaccine eventually, but this isn’t cut and dried like you think.
I understand the hesitation. But I'm still getting it.
If you compare in depth the protocols and methodologies of the trials for the various vaccines, there is much to be concerned about. I did a year of graduate statistical research including peer reviewing studies at a top 10 research university. The editor of Brit Med J has written about the probelms regarding the trials. The utter silence regarding a conventional shot, which would circumvent so many issues, is astounding.
I try not to get aggravated with people because it hasn’t been explained or marketed well in the US at all, but it can be difficult sometimes. My family is full of medical professionals and I have a background in epidemiology, so I know I’m coming at this with a level of context / understanding that the average layperson wouldn’t. more than anything i’m frustrated and disappointed by the failure of science communication on the part of the US government even under a new President. the vaccines are safe (better safety profile than many OTC meds!) and surprisingly effective.

The AstraZeneca vaccine caused blood clots and brain hemorrhages, so I get it. I’m getting the vaccine but I’m not judging people who are hesitant.
I work in a practice area that works closely with big pharma, and their consistent lying about side effects of the drugs/ products they put out makes them criminal organizations. People have died from the inflammation caused by the vaccine, but that won’t come out until the lawsuits start rolling and we can prove it. This is a money making campaign and while I think it is mostly safe, there are many reasons to be cautious. I’m back in the office, unvaccinated, happily relying on my own immune response.
