I don't think any recruiter will give this to you in writing since M to SM promotion requires lot of network building etc which would take time and will depend on how you perform as well...
That’s understandable, I guess I’m curious to know what dictates the date put into the system for target promo date. Any idea what inputs go into that for experienced hires?
I don't think 2022 is possible at Deloitte. Our performance runs from March to March, and promotions come into effect in October (in typical year). We are already in this performance year, so you won't be prompted in Oct 2022. Next year March 2022 to March 2023, you have to perform at SM level (varies per service line but you have to prove that you can sell for which you need a strong network or existing client relationships which takes time) and compete with existing Ms who have been in the system atleast 2-3 years. So most likely your promotion looks like October 2024 or later depending on your performence. Obviously, it can happen sooner depending on your performance but remember that M to SM in Deloitte requires significant leadership support and that takes time. Also the date is just indicative date, if they think you are not ready (for reasons other than performance) they will just push it. If your goal is to become SM fastest, stick with your current org.
Well said D4
Not sure ab M level but below that, no promo during first year
Make sure you get it in writing that give you tenure. Within the firm its 4 years from M to SM.
If promotion is a priority for you, and your current company is going to do that next year, what are your reasons for wanting to leave?
That’s good reason to consider the offer
For lateral hire target promotion date is determined in the first talent review that happen mid-year. So talent acquisition team has no say on your promotion date and shouldn’t set any such misleading expectations.
D4 is right. To get promoted to SM the same year you join as M is nearly impossible. Forget the fact that you will need to build your network and brand in your new firm. You will need to make value proposition presentations to offering and industry leaders and to your core network. It happens during a set window— Nov-Jan, typically. If you miss it, unlikely you will get promoted. Candidates for SM are identified nearly a year before they go through the process. There are no shortcuts
The firm I’d be leaving is ACN. It’s tech strategy in both firms.
Any thoughts on long term upside? At ACN tech Strategy is getting severed from the strategy job family and strategy pay later this year (it’ll role up under Tech Strat and Advisory job family and pay across tech advisory folks is going to come more in line with tech strat). Additionally there seems to be higher long term upside at D.
Should’ve positioned yourself as a SM during interviews
