Just venting. Got an offer at McKinsey and I can’t take it for health reasons that only manifested after my interview process. Sometimes life is pretty hard on you.

Your health is more important than anything. Hope you get better soon

like

Ask if you can be considered for a spot later. Business conditions matter obviously, but I wouldn’t just decline and let them think you didn’t want the job.

like

Sorry to hear on all accounts. Maybe you’ll be able to take another shot in the future.

like

Sorry to hear that:/ hope your health improves

OP — your health is the MOST IMPORTANT THING. Many people have left the firm without a second glance when their health suffered. Consider their refusal of a medical deferral to also be a sign that your health won’t be a priority to them. I’m so sorry to hear this but in a weird way, I think this may be better for your health and well-being in the long run. Hang in there ❤️ -ex McK person with chronic health issues in the family

like

Sorry to hear about that.

Hope your health improves... I’m sure that similar opportunities will lie ahead!

like

Sounds like my experience with MS. Hang in there, friend. You aren’t alone even when life kicks you down.

like

Very similar - thank you for the message, I appreciate it.

Depending on you exact situation and the geography of the McKinsey office, you may qualify as disabled, and the employer may be legally obligated to provide you with work accommodations. This could be the best of both worlds for you: you get the name on your resume and solid work experience while the firm helps you work around/despite your health situation. If you get better or handle symptoms well, things will be fine. If you get counseled out (which could happen even if you did not have a health challenge), you will have good exit opportunities.

Take the job and the great insurance and then tell them

like

^ agreed. Depending on the role you get, you may not even work too many hours. I personally haven’t worked over 50 hours a week in a few years. (Knock on wood).
Try it out. It may work out for you :)

Sending you healing vibes.

like

Would it be too stressful?

like

No but it is a nervous system thing.

I agree with GT1. I think by all definitions you could be considered disabled. If a medically diagnosed condition interferes with your ability to work that is the definition of disabled. I’m not saying you’ll be a superstar fast tracker at McKinsey but you can probably get accommodated and get it on your resume if that’s your goal. And I think they have insanely good medical.

I'm holding an offer from MakeMyTrip and another offer from OlaElectric. Ninjacart is willing to make me an offer. But they're saying that they'd discuss the offer only after the other company that I'm interviewing with has come up with an offer first. There's been a delay from HRs of the companies in a similar way. How do I urge them to send me the offer letter without sounding pushy? I had reached out to some of the HRs myself. Would that be too awkward if I accept & back out their offer?
