I only ever cry out of frustration, so I feel you on this.
I’ve found it helps to rehearse hard situations in advance, if you can. That helps me stay calmer because I already know what i want to say, and then I can focus on keeping emotions measured.
I’m the same. It’s frustrating because it distracts from my message and is perceived as not professional. I haven’t found a “cure” for it but I have left meetings abruptly to avoid a scene. I say “I’ll be right back” and wait until I can collect myself. I stand with you in solidarity.
Exact same. It’s so frustrating.
This is me. I agree with playing it out or practicing ahead. When in the moment I try to think of the song SHITLIST by L7. It makes me feel angry and fierce which suppresses the emotions.

Sometimes I just have to acknowledge it and keep going. “I know I’m crying right now, but I’m not sad I am angry/frustrated and this is important to me”
...other times I look at the floor until I can run to a bathroom stall and cry it out. Depends on the day.
I’ve just started calling it out for what it is “Clearly my body’s subconscious autonomous response to the sheer frustration towards this situation is activating my tear ducts. So let’s just let it happen and continue what we were saying.”
The scientific rational explanation to my crying always catches people off guard. But I also talk a lot about the important role of empathy and emotion in our field during our agency wide talks, so I know I have a weird pass. But the core is accepting crying for what it is: a physiological response to stressors. Once you accept that and use it to your advantage openly, then the taboo is broken.
My emotions I used to see as a weakness but now I use them as a super power not to be ignored.
I’m an extremely emotional person, my empathy makes me great at my job. Yes, I hate when I cry out of frustration or anger, but luckily I have a CD who gets who I am and values my “superpower” as he calls it.
