Strategy& folks, how do you truly feel regarding overall happiness with your job? I feel like often times we only see negative opinions on here (people come to vent about being overworked etc) so I’m curious if there are a bunch of happy S& employees out there just keeping more quiet

Digital consultants are aligned to the digital practice (although it is not exclusive). I joined as a digital analyst and glt acces to a digital specific staffing log, development manager, and partner-mentor, but I could still get staffed on projects outside the digital practice (in fact, 80% of my projects have been non-digital).
Comp is exactly the same between digital and integrated and dictated by tenure and perfomance. Progression, even though digital has a slighlty different review timeline, is moslty the same. Even though you are practice aligned, you join alongside the integrated analyst / associated cohort, so internally all analysts / associates are regarded similarly regardless of practice alignment.
All in all, no downside to joining the digital practice if you are interested in digital work, it is actually kind of the best of both worlds in my experience.
I joined as an integrative consultant and recently transferred to Digital. No changes in comp or anything whatsoever. For me it has only upsides: great community, better coaching (IMO), more training and networking event offers. I still get to participate in everything the country office offers, so it’s just the additional bonus stuff on top 😊
You are expected to spend a majority of your time working on „Digital“ topics - as this could be pretty much anything, it’s not really a constraint if you are interested in digital / tech.
So, only upsides for me as well!
I think the only downside of joining a practice is that if you change your mind later it may be more difficult to build your network outside of the practice from scratch. But it seems (from an Integrative perspective) that development and advancement is smoother if you enter affiliated with a practice.
Second all the above
Our job descriptions are terrible at explaining this, but let me take my best shot.
Consultants inside McKinsey have a path (typically integrative, implementation, and expert), a functional practice (ops, digital, marketing & sales, etc), and some industry alignment (GEM, Advanced Industries, Life Sciences, etc).
Integrative consultants can have no functional practice and no industry alignment up to a point (EM / APish?), but you can also join as an Ops Integrative consultant or a Digital Integrative consultant. Hope this helps!!
Rising Star
I have nothing to add to the above, other than congratulations on the offer and I hope you decide to take it 😊
How many YOE? And do you have an MBA?
You don’t need an MBA to join McKinsey and if you join as an Associate, comp is the same whether you have one or not.
