Use sick day code or G&A or lost time
Makes sense cause being sick isn’t vacation 😂
Absolutely not, why would you take PTO if you work more than 40? Regardless of what your minimum is. You’re salaried to work 40 hours a week. Any less than that, take PTO.
Yeah no that’s a stupid rule hahah, and you’re absolutely right, they don’t work weekends 😂 yeah I’d say just roll the hours and charge less on the weekend
You workin at BKD? They were all over that….
The real answer here is to shift your time from other days into that day. You absolutely should not be using PTO in a week that you work more than 40 hours.
Depends on the office you are in - Houston will try to get you to use PTO unfortunately because we have some old school people still in leadership
I never take PTO if i work over 40 hours during the week. I personally don’t think it should matter since you plan on making up the hours later in the week. I don’t know where you work but if you have 60 chargeable hours for the week, i doubt they’ll look at your timesheet to find PTO for the day you didn’t work
Hmm unfortunately it sounds like you have your answer. Its really unfair and i personally would not make up the hours if i had to use PTO anyway. I do understand that you still have plenty of work to do but i just wouldn’t do it.
No. Plug the hours made up in the day you missed.
Who is watching your timesheet that closely? I can’t imagine why anyone would care about this. I mean managers will care about time you charge to the code but for other stuff who even sees it?
HR lol

That was sort of like my dilemma, except I didn’t make the hours and took PTO.
Yup, I do which is why I made this post. I think it’s unethical to make someone do that. Let’s say you do 60 hours in 5 days (12 hour days) well they would want you to take PTO for 12 hours on the day you missed. I think that is crazy.
Nope. Spread the hrs out a little for that week

Why are you using PTO for a sick day
PTO and sick days are in the same category at my firm
With unlimited PTO I would charge it because really your billed hours to available hours should reflect the fact you still worked a ton of hours even with a half day sick. With limited PTO I wouldn’t charge it because it’s a better trade off to get to use that half day for vacation later.
I wish! I don’t really think HR should be so adamant about it when they don’t work nearly as much as we do.
What did your senior or manager say?
Yes- it’s up to the HR. But if you didn’t work over the weekend, you would have put your senior and manager in a difficult position. So I want them to defend
But rsm is unlimited so for me wont matter
Where in HR are you hearing this? The policy is clear. You have to log 40 hours a week. If it’s 4 ten hour days, you leave Friday blank but submit.
KPMG has specific policies around this. You don’t need 8 hours a day.
Heck no. You just flexed your time.
Agree.
Even before Covid but especially after Covid, this should be a non issue - people are flexing all over the place. I would consider whether your firm is archaic and it’s time for a move. I imagine it’s not just with this policy.
Unless the policy changed in the last couple months, HR is making this up.
