Best deal toy / tombstone ever?
I recently graduated from law school and have started my clerkship in the superior court of NJ. Once done with my clerkship, I’m hoping to work in employment law (defense). I’ve seen online that Jackson Lewis is hiring at their Berkeley Heights, NJ location. Can anyone give me any insight on what it’s like to work at JL? culture? First year associate salary? Typical work day? Jackson Lewis P.C.

Why would you want to read about litigation in your spare time?
No, but I'm rereading all the Harry Potter books and highly recommend.
I wanted to read 30 minutes per day, but struggled to get in the habit with nonfiction books. I started to reread Harry Potter, and it worked perfectly!

Bryan Garner's book with Scalia is good. Making the case, I think it's called?
I am trying to follow it up by reading “the interpretation of legal texts” a Scalia garner collaboration. That is taking much longer.
I'd highly recommend fiction instead of litigation guides for your summer reading.
I'm going through The Quantum Magician right now. It's enjoyable and light.
Devil Take the Hindmost, More Money Than God and Barbarians at the Gate are all good reads. Not business/investment books in the “how to” sense but more like business/investment history. Devil Take the Hindmost is a history of financial speculation, More Money Than God is a history of hedge funds and Barbarians at the Gate is about the LBO of RJR Nabisco.
Loved Barbarians at the Gate. I read it during bar prep. Not only did I pass the bar but I avoided going crazy.
The Millionaire Next Door.
The Litigators. The Art of Cross Examination. Your Witness. Theater Tips and Strategies for Trial Lawyers. Ladies and Gentlemen of the Jury. Lincoln, David Herbert Donald.
The Taking of Getty Oil was also a great read. It’s the story of a failed M & A that culminated in a state jury trial that resulted in one of the largest verdicts in American history. It didn’t have as much info about the litigation preceding the trial as I would have liked but the trial descriptions were great.
I would recommend “swimming lessons for baby sharks” by Grover Cleveland. It is all about being a young lawyer.
Blood Orange by Harriet Tyce. It’s a fiction mystery/psychological thriller but the author is a UK barrister. Highly recommend
Anything by Michael Lewis tbh.
Shane Read’s books on trial skills are good.
“Books on money investments”
Art of cross examination is VERY good
The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins is the only personal finance book you will need. The audiobook is better.
