I moved into tech from the agency life. I worked as a data analyst for the agency’s paid media team. I currently work as a customer success manager. As you are an account supervisor, the roles that probably make the most sense for you in terms of transferrable skills I would assume would be account management/manager role, customer success, sales, possibly product marketing manager depending on your skills. I would say leveraging my transferrable skills was the most important part in me getting hired. I would say look for roles that appear similar-ish to your current role, then if that’s not for you, you can transfer internally later on or go to a different company.
I was a Producer on the agency side and then moved in-house as a Marketing Program Manager for a couple B2C companies and recently transitioned to a B2B tech company. A lot of folks on the marketing team have agency backgrounds so would recommend looking for roles within marketing departments. Also helps if you’ve worked with tech clients at your current agency.
That’s so good to hear! Thank you both. Yeah I’ve been looking into PMM but have been nervous about the learning curve / breaking in. Any tips on getting your foot in the door?
You could try pivoting to a tech company's advertising arm.
You could do digital marketing. Or pivot into a PM role. Depends on your skillet
