Manager with a big 4 and finally have enough liquid cash to make some meaningful market investments. I am admittedly a newbie to trading and honestly don’t have a lot of interest in self-managing but would like a brokerage and/or CFP guided account (that understands/can accommodate independence requirements).

Any recommendations on brokerage or service to get started? Looking at Vanguard Personal Advisor service at the moment… Thanks for any advise

Index funds are your friend. Brokers that will meet your independence requirements are not worth the fees given they’ll probably underperform the index funds over time

like

^ yup! Open up a brokerage account at vanguard your 401k is already there. One less password do memorize. You can set up auto payments. Mine debits once a week.

Would also recommend index funds- ETFs are your best friend now. Don’t bother with an actively managed fund as they’ll likely underperform the market in addition to charging fees. Just look for passively managed ETFs with low expense ratios, and do a quick google search into the aspects of diversification etc you can work in. You’ll be much better off long term.

Hi all, I have a question regarding retirement accounts. I am not sure if I should choose a Roth or 401k (company has 4+2% match). Currently 23, base salary is ~100k and investments have brought 45k this year which has me teetering between a 22-24% tax bracket. Wondering what the usual tax bracket is of people retired (around 65yo) as I’m not sure anything would bring in significant income with the exception of investments. In my case would a Roth make sense? Appreciate any answers!!

My partner and I are in the process of buying a PHEV that qualifies for the full non-refundable federal tax credit. We will both owe taxes in excess of the current $7,500 cap (will see if that increases with the new budget bill). If we both own the car (i.e. both names on the title), how do we manage filing for the tax credit when filing separately? Do we just pick one of us to file? Is there guidance on splitting the credit across owners? Does it matter what order our names are on the title?

I read these posts and what numbers you have with FIRE. I don’t have nearly that much saved; I am paying for two kids in school (college). What is the minimal amount?

I just hit my lean fire number but am hesitating to pull the trigger, so was hoping to run it by people smarter than me:

- I have a few rentals that bring in ~$1800/mo cash flow, taxes are negligible, Capex incl.
- My paper assets will bring in ~$1200/mo at 3% draw
- I get free Healthcare at the VA
- No plans on kids
- My expenses haven't topped $30k/yr ever
- I could always reenter the workforce if needed (albeit probably not in consulting)

Please point out the flaws here, what am I missing?
