Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

17 years and you’re not even making $35,000 a year? Ask for $20 an hour but start looking for other job opportunities. You deserve better.
It’s Mississippi. It’s a poor state I know LVNs making $15/hr
17 years at the same company? That's a massive accomplishment. I'd ask for $20 and if that's a no-go, maybe try to bump up vacation/sick time. No matter what, though, give yourself so much credit for your dedication and hard work. That's amazing.
You really need to make a good case for yourself. Jot down some thoughts about things you've done on the job that have gone well. Once you have a list of your work wins, you'll be able to come up with a good pitch about how you are a valuable employee. And be sure to include the theme that you have grown in the job and you're a more valuable worker now than you were when your salary was last set. Comparing yourself to other employees may not work, but making a solid case for yourself seems like a good strategy.
I don't know anything about your industry, but that seems like an incredibly low wage for your experience in any position. Have you looked around to see what other companies are paying for your role and your experience level?
I think you should ask for whatever you feel your are worth.
OMG!!! at least $5.00 increase on your pay...I would ask for at $8.00 with no call outs. sorry to hear this. best of luck to you!!
have been with them for 24 years...getting them to give you what you deserve as a long-time employee is hard. Trust when i say people just now walking in are making way more than you...ask around...finally had to threaten to quit in order to just get a 2 dollar raise that brought me up to the other girls that just coming in....i only stay because the benefits are great and PLB is grandfather in with 240hr a year.
