Tough. Have a 7 month old. Make sure they get enough sleep and feeding during the day ,it actually makes nights easier. Try to give them some time to work it out before you intervene and do as little as possible to get them to settle (keep it dark, avoid picking up). The nursing to sleep is tricky, try to avoid it during the day so baby learns to put themselves to sleep. And probably non-compliant advice, but ours was much happier at that age on her stomach. It will get better, just takes time, so take care of yourselves.
That’s the age we went hard after sleep training. Bought the Taking Cara Babies setup and even time with their sleep consultant. We were so toast from the prior 2 months that we just had to. I know it can be done on your own… their program is 90% Ferber I think… but it was nice to have videos and someone to talk to.
It was life changing for us. Inside about 2-3 weeks we had our daughter sleeping through the night and basically haven’t looked back one year later. Out of about 10 people who have tried sleep training… I mean 100% dedicated to it and didn’t make their own personalized exceptions… everyone had success. The 2 people I know that tried to modify it and just weren’t as strict both had issues and still don’t have a great sleeper.
Taking Cara Babies. Google it… will be the first result. I think we did the complete 5-24 month collection.
We had a bit of an issue, noticed she was waking herself up with arm movements, etc. and got a magic Merlin Sleep suit. The other thing we did was feed her a “milkshake” before bed- basically added an extra scoop or 2 of formula to her breast milk bottle. Our little girl was then sleeping 12 hours a night. Good luck!
An infant shouldn’t have Moro reflect at 6 months though. But agreed earlier age swaddling is key!
Been running into the same with my 5 month old. We did Ferber, sucked at first but eventually he learned to soothe himself. Sleeps for like 4-5 hours then will wake up but won’t wake up fussy. After a bit he soothes himself back to sleep and is down to 1-2 bottles overnight. Babies sometimes get used to what they’re given to go to sleep, so yours may be expecting to nurse in order to go back down. Just a suggestion, every baby is different!
We had a similar issue with my son - we tried a variety of methods, including Ferber, none of which worked (other than scar us parents). Agree with the every baby is different comment - just didn’t work for us.
He is now 5 and sleeps 4hrs per night in total with no day time naps and no developmental impact. Variety of paediatric consultants have said that he appears to be one of the incredibly small population of humans who can survive on very little sleep… good times.
We normally set out a variety of things/ activities/ food for him to tackle when he wakes- buys us an extra hour or so - then he is in and out jumping on me to get me up to play. It’s hard to say no - very conscious that at some point he won’t want to play with me anymore, so maximising time now!
What’s the sleep schedule at night? Are you doing a sleep routine? And are you observing appropriate wake windows for his age?
Best advice now is to go to a sleep consultant if you want a quicker fix.
Is the baby feeding enough throughout the day? Have you tried a dream feed right before you go to bed? What about a pacifier at night time?
We had a Snoo and that helped us a ton but it’s only for 6 months. We followed taking cara babies sleep guides pretty well in the past, and now use Huckleberry App to help us with sleep schedules. That also has a paid consultation option.
Also make sure you have blackout windows and white noise.
You now have to go through a sleep regression.
