What is the expense ratio? I didn't know there were Vanguard funds through Fidelity so I'm not aware of any specific issues.

Good to know. I'll look into the expense ratios out of curiosity. But I already have my company sponsored accounts with Fidelity and my personal IRAs with Vanguard.
100% of my 401k through fidelity is in VINEX.

I think my current one is 0.06%, but could be wrong though. I guess what I’m getting at with my original question is, do brokerages work like middlemen that want a cut of the goods if they’re facilitating a transaction with a fund that isn’t their own?

Only if you are buying mutual funds that managed by a different brokerage. For ETFs, there is no fee
And separately, does the concept of “locking in losses” that happens if you sell stocks while they’re down, also apply if you switch funds for a 401k? I’m assuming so because tactically it’d require selling the current Fidelity funds and buying Vanguard ones in their place...
