AKQA is really the only agency player in the DC market. Apparently the Huge office there is a shit show. Other than that you’re looking at PR or government comms work. NatGeo is headquartered there which could be cool. Boston is probably your best bet though. Best of luck to your fiancé!

In DC, there are small digital shops that do some political / cause work (ex. Blue State Digital) and PR agencies (Ogilvy, Weber Shandwick, Edelman, Flieshman, Golan, GloverParkGroup) that function as ad agencies for some clients - lots of cause and public affairs work if that’s your jam
Huge DC office is solid. 80-90 strong and culture is tight. Excellent mix of clients, produce & marketing teams doing great creative. Legit strat practice. Check it out.
